Multitasking or death?

What is suddenly wrong with wanting to take Big Life Decisions one at a time (assuming you have the option)? If Everyone Else is taking on all these hats and you don't want to pile on all the responsibility at once, that means you're selling yourself short - at least, that's the message I've been getting lately.

Earth logic, anyone? Bueller? Discuss.

Big Life Decisions should be made only when appropriate, if possible, because it's still your life. Taking more than can be handled for the sake of looking good sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, but then I'm not the most ambitious person in the world. I have ambitions, I just don't see any point in wrecking my health and sanity to achieve them.
