Well, it also helps that he was one of 13 writers who tried to edit the screenplay. For all I know, no more than two words of his contributions showed up in the final product. Hell, JMS was credited with the "One More Day" story even though the final script did not mesh with what he wanted to do (and that was just two writers, him and Quesada).
