An open letter to my creativity demons.

Dear Lunatics,

The events of the past six months have convinced me that we need to have a little talk. Or rather, I'm talking and you're listening. Here's my demands.

  1. Stop it with the random crossover fanfic ideas. 90% of them are just blatant excuses to Mary Sue-possess canon characters, and the other 10% have no plot.

  2. I need more help on the writing side. Stop telling me and start showing. A nice, writable, relevant SCENE would be great.

  3. The scenes you've been throwing me do not count because there ARE NO STORIES ATTACHED TO THEM.

  4. Quit shrieking whenever I so much as mention the Key and Sword rewrite. I tolerated the strike when Death confused me with overcomplications, but now you have no such excuse.

  5. All Mary Sues must shut the hell up right now. The PR ones are permitted to remain on the sidelines for potential badfic PRFA examples, but the rest of you have to either demote yourselves to USEFUL OCs or go jump off a cliff.

  6. Note to the accounting department: If one more accounting demon spazzes out at the notion of high credit card bills or high insurance bills this month, they will be roasted. We're paying the ticket, we're going to handle the insurance going up because of the accident, we can handle going bonkers at Otakon. I HAVE MONEY SAVED, and Ireland's going to mean more expenses. Deal with it.

  7. Get back to working on my existing stories. I am tired of the disputes over "Sharp Edges."

  8. Pick better times to be useful. Don't toss scenes at me when I'm stuck in a development meeting that's actually relevant to what I'm doing.

  9. Stop trying to write fanfic based on existing fanfic. These writers have enough to worry about in constructing their own universes without someone throwing a wrench in them. (Besides, the ideas you've been coming up with in that department SUCK.)

  10. On the comic front, will you quit tossing one-shots at me and let me script the end of the moving in arc already? Sheesh.

  11. Distracting me with new and pointless little projects when I'm in the middle of something important will lead to me discovering just how much abuse creativity demons can take. (Character-based demons: if I can, I will TORTURE your characters in their stories if I feel the urge. Got that?)

  12. Soundtracks to fanfic are good. APPROPRIATE soundtracks are better. When I'm writing a character-based scene, loading something slow by Delerium or Tracy Chapman is okay. Getting Scooter's "Fire" stuck in my head when I'm trying to write angst? WRONG.

  13. Stop jumping on any new project idea when it comes to mind. Unless the result is a short drabble or vignette, I'm not taking on any more projects. Capisce?

Any deviations from these demands will lead to a great deal of suffering. And not just on my end.

Sincerely,
Mandi
