Meeting meme...

Yep, I'm about to pick up the "Where did you meet me?" meme from [livejournal.com profile] yahtzee63 and [livejournal.com profile] janedavitt.

I do know the answer to this question for a LOT of people on my friends list, this is just a generic meme. ([livejournal.com profile] jennies and [livejournal.com profile] violetbloom are especially exempt from this, since I'd need to be smacked for not knowing how I met you two.)

How did you first hear of/meet me?

Where and when did you first hear my name/see my work/meet me? with what people/series/groups etc. do you associate me and my writing? This is not a praise or feedback meme, this is just to track the path of my online presence and to see the connections involved, to find out how people link together.

Just curious.

Oh, and this morning tears it: I am switching to DreamHost next month. :)

My connection to you would be thanks to He-Man.org. First time I saw your work - "The Key and the Sword," I believe. :D Good stuff! Now, I just count myself among the throngs who worship you not only for your writing, but for the Fabulousity of your very being. ;)

*hugs*

You're one of the people I held onto that story for so long... :)

We first met over Power Rangers. You gave such great, detailed, thoughtful reviews that I got addicted and began to bug you for 'em. And then we sorta chatted once in a while, and then Rach came to visit and the rest is Halloween history. And now I also am one of the throng of faithful.

Heh. I maintain that those long, rambling reviews were also induced by the special brand of mind-numbing boredom caused by artifact code review. *gag*

So you can bet when I saw new parts of "Angel With Two Faces" to distract me from wanting to beat my head against the computer, I was THRILLED. :)

(And I was gonna try my hand at PotC fanfic, but my DVD got stolen and I can't re-watch Jack and Anamaria to make the voices right. *pout*)

Hmmmm....

I first ran across the name of Mandolin way back when I first climbed online. I have a dim and hazy recollection of something Highlander connected (but it might have been friend of a friend stuff, so I could be wrong). I know for sure that I properly ran across Mandolin was in PR at Jenga's Library. I was impressed and felt that you were one of the Names in PR (and you are!), and eventually (via detailed feedback on my stuff) we got to talking. Then Halloween happened and we got to meet by virtue of me being on the right continent :)

That make any kind of sense?

More sense than I usually make. ;)

How did you first hear of/meet me?

Because I saw that Captain N/X-Files crossover while surfing around one day and said "No. Fucking. Way." And then it didn't suck, which was even more surprising. ^^

And, uh, we haven't actually met in person, so there's not really any answer to that.

With what people/series/groups etc. do you associate me and my writing?

Witchblade, mostly, which is sort of odd considering Sharp Edges got yanked, but that's what I think of. Well, that and straaaange crossovers. Not that there's anything wrong with that, being a fan of the "crossovers-which-should-never-have-been-written-and-yet-still-work" school myself.

I plan to finish that come hell or high water. I was just tired of getting verbally attacked for not finishing it. :)

TPFICT, TPFICT, TPFICT.

Or it may have been TPDIS. I forget. I seem to recall that I started reading the Tana Trilogy, liking it, and getting to know you.

Oddly enough, I associate you now more with PR fandom than TP fandom.

Re:

[identity profile] weirdweb.livejournal.com 2004-02-21 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
It was TPFICT, mostly, and me nagging you over "Telepathic Ghosts"/"Mistakes", I think.

And I've written more PR fic than TP fic, but that has a lot to do with the fact that I still have tapes of PR to jog my memory...

[identity profile] kimera.livejournal.com 2004-02-20 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hrm... first heard of you through PR fandom... first actual interaction with you? Cyn's board, I'm pretty sure. Or IRC? And I'd have to say that I associate your writing with Power Rangers, mostly, although Gargoyles as well.

Re:

[identity profile] weirdweb.livejournal.com 2004-02-21 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Had to be Cynthia's board, because I *KNOW* I posted there more than IRC.

I started out on #alt-mmpr as Kiara_D, but I hate that nick and when Mandolin comes up people go "who?"

That, and I've been avoiding IRC lately to keep the computer from sucking valuable fill-out-insurance-forms time away.

[identity profile] leiza.livejournal.com 2004-02-20 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You know where we met: WB Boards. The rest is history. :)

Re:

[identity profile] weirdweb.livejournal.com 2004-02-21 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
Yep.

(And it's part of the reason I hope the people who want to have the Gathering in Dallas again in a year or two win their bid, because I can go out there with the additional excuse of: "Hey, I can visit Leiza!") ;)

[identity profile] leiza.livejournal.com 2004-02-21 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Hey! If you do that, it'll be nice to see you! :)

[identity profile] marielogan.livejournal.com 2004-02-20 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
* hugs *

Same as Leiza :)

Re:

Yep! (Too bad you live so far away...)

Re:

Awww... yeah, Texas is almost two times closer to MA, and worse yet, I'm isolated on an Island. * pouts *

BUT it doesn't mean we'll never meet. Vern and I are talking about road trips for new scenery, new hiking, a change of pace, and, well, out and out satisfaction of our curiosity - our style.

And then there's always the possibility of a chance meeting.

I'm another one who came across you on He-Man.org, in one of the Fanfic board discussion threads . . . although I can't remember exactly where.

I primarily associate you with Power Rangers, since that seems to be where a lot of your output is directed.

Well, hey, everything ELSE I'm a fan of either has been cancelled, will be cancelled, might be cancelled or I've lost interest in current seasons. :)

I should note that I've very much appreciated your positive words on _The Final Hours_, too.

Trolling for N&A websites and found your fantabulous Low-Tech Tribute. :)

*sigh* I still need to finish scanning all those lovely articles you sent me. AND get my signed TV Guide (Gerrit Graham) scanned and posted there.

I think I'm going to set apart two days in the near future: one to clean my apartment and do grocery shopping and all that, and one for website updates. It's the only way I'll cut through the backlog at all.

[identity profile] jonathlee.livejournal.com 2004-02-21 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
And here I thought I was going to be the only one to have heard of you through the N-Files. ;) At Jenga's, no less. ^_^ ... speaking of which, is he EVER going to update that thing? It's dead, boy, just admit it...

As to 'meeting' you... we started talking with regards to that whole PRFA debacle. So not that long ago. :D

And I associate you more with PR than anything. THough I have read some of your other stuff.

Well... Hmmm... Let me think

[identity profile] violetbloom.livejournal.com 2004-02-22 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It is possible that we never actually "met." I have no recolection of a "meeting." It is possible that we instantly just knew each other. I can, however, tell you that we started being friends because we needed someone with whom to eat lunch junior year so we would not be complete social outcasts. So, we started sitting with AJ, Meghan, etc. etc. Thank God for Nick. What would we have done without Nick? Did Maya introduce us? Were you involved in the whole, "Secretly mailing letters to that guy in India that she wasn't supposed to be in love with?" Damn. That's going to drive me crazy. I will look through old journals...

Not involved in it so much as I heard plenty about it.

I somehow met Maya during fourth or fifth grade, and have no clue when we met - just that my last year at Prospect Mill, I knew her pretty well.

Thank God for Nick. What would we have done without Nick?

I'd have gone insane a lot quicker, let me tell you. :)

No luck

My journal starts in May 1996. We already knew each other. However, there is some funny crap in here. The first entry mentioning you:

"Mandi and Megan are fighting again, and I think it's serious this time. Nick sat with us at lunch. He's such a funny little guy. He told me that he was from Mars and his peanut butter crackers were animals from his planet. He "killed" them and told me they bled peanut butter. When he threw Aaron some animal crackers, I asked him what they bled. He looked at me funny. After a short pause he said, "Guilty?" He is hysterical."

Yes. I know that was more about Nick than you, but it's the first entry that mentions your name...

Then July 4, 1996... "I went to Mandi's picnic. Maya was there for a while and Cindy came. After Maya left, Mandi and I didn't know what to talk about so we used a paper plate as a frisby for a while. Then we started tossing a ball back and forth. I decided that whenever one does not have anything to talk about with someone else, you should throw things at each other."
