mandolin: (wtf)

What the?

Okay, will someone, anyone, with a better background in law than me please take a look at the bill mentioned in this post?

Now I don't agree with the intent at all, but that's not the only reason I'm posting this. The wording of this law looks like it's going to cause a TON of legal messes in the future.

(Hypothetically: Person A dies and leaves all her property to Person B, a friend of the same sex (not necessarily a partner) and nothing to their only blood relative, Person C. Could Person C use this law to override Person A's wishes and collect the inheritance??)

What is WRONG with these people?

Maybe it's a good thing my stepbrother and his family escaped Virginia when they did...

There are no words. There really aren't.

Then again, although I can't cite you specific examples, there are similarly screwed up laws that have been enacted on this side of the Atlantic - though nothing (so far as I know) that has quite the same malicious intent behind it.

Hopefully someone will declare that unconstitutional very soon, and some politician's ass will be handed to him on a platter. They're trying to tell Virginians what they can and can't do with their estate and their lives? Excuse me, but since when does a politician have a right to control that much of my life? Hmmmm? I thought removing ourselves from tyranny was a basis for the foundation of this country? Maybe I'm mistaken? Or maybe I just don't believe that the government needs to have that much say in my life? I have free-will, let me use it!
