NTSH-related note...

Just FYI:

NTSH is going to be on serious hiatus for a very simple reason: I have just discovered that of all their scanners, HP has arbitrarily decided that they will never make Mac OS X drivers for the particular series I own. Just that series.

*headdesk*

I need to smite something.

Alternative drivers....

I know that there is third-party driver software available (because there was so much poor OS X support in the beginning). What version scanner do you have?

*sigh*

Scanjet 4400c, or the one series they do not plan to make OS X drivers for.

I'd be less pissed off, I suppose, if they'd even provided a vague excuse...

Frag.

It would have to be the scanner that neither of the two 3rd-party driver makers doesn't do.

Grr - argh. Stupid HP. Maybe a polite call to their tech support line, something on the order of "what the frell am I supposed to do with this thing?!?"

Or not. Wish I could help. I think there's an old Microtek scanner in my basement, but that's probably even *more* obsolete...

Neh, that bites. I'll check with the Kiwi to see if he can offer up any work-arounds.

Then again, you can get some damned decent scanners for about a hundred bucks now. Faster connections, higher dpi ranges, smoother performance....Check out Epson's stuff, or Canon's line. I've been using my Canon for 4 years now without complaint, and Dad's new Epson kicks mine around the block (Firewire, with built-in negative adapters)...
