Man, I know I'm in trouble when I start mentally comparing the mechanic's attempts to figure out what the hell is wrong with my car to House, MD and the differential diagnosis.

So, do cars lie too? :)

(No news on that front yet. I'm waiting til 3:30 to call them and ask what's going on.)

Cars don't lie, but owners sometimes do. Or at least, mechanics seem to assume so ;)

Get a photo of the mechanic and tape it to the inside of the hood. Fool the car into thinking it's being looked at by a professional. It may continue to lie. It's worth a shot.

Cars, like every other piece of machinery known to man, take perverse joy out of failing to manifest chronic problems when a technician is present.

Out of curiousity, when Jewel stalls like this, do the phantom error codes appear in a way that would make them easily photographable if a digital camera were present? I realize this is somewhat akin to trying to get Bigfoot, UFOs, and ghosts on tape, but maybe you might sway the techs more if they saw concrete proof. Even if it *was* in the form of a grainy, out-of-focus print... ^_^;

The Check Engine light flickers for half a second and you can feel the stall. But you'd have to stick a camcorder under my chin to get a good shot of it. I sincerely doubt I'd be able to get a shot of it without getting in an accident.
