Apparently, when the US Department of State did a background check on me, they didn't talk to anyone who actually knows me, because in less than 3 weeks after I applied for it, I got my passport! Whoo-hoo!

Of course, as both Plague and Death pointed out, the government may not have a problem with me leaving the country, but will they let me come BACK? ;)

I have such loving friends.

Question about LJ etiquette: what do you do about friending someone whose blog you've discovered? That is, it's the blog of someone you know through a fandom but you didn't notice for months and just found. I mean, it's pretty damn tacky to post a comment saying "Look! I friended you! Friend me back!" (Especially when this is a fandom you've been MIA from for a couple years now...)

Oh, lord, I used "friend" as a verb. The English major in me is just throwing a fit. :)

I don't know what kind of background checks they do before issuing a passport, but then again, I was issued a passport when I was four months old. Maybe they wanted me out of the country pretty badly.

Seriously, though, I suspect you've got to have some sort of red flag to be denied a passport. But to get one in three weeks? Who'd you bribe? :)

As for LJ ettiquite: I think the best thing to do might be to put the person on your friends list, read what they've got to say, and leave a comment in a discussion if it seems appropriate... and work from there.

Neh, Chaos, LiveJournal says I need an "account creation code" in order to get a free account. (And, what with the high costs of particle accelerators and ICBMs nowadays, I want to at least *start* with a free LJ.) So, gimme the code, and then maybe I can get a journal.

And I wound up with 34/100 movies seen to entirity. I won't count another 5 towards the total on the basis of 15 minutes and sporadic scene clips do not qualify as 'watching' a movie.

Oh, and on a completely separate note: DarkHorse is releasing the Trigun manga! And, more importantly, Viz Comics is going to pick up the Kenshin manga!!!! (Oh, happy days, happy days....must tell Plague.... :D )

Heh... considering I'm about to do this very thing to you, I'll say there is no set etiquette. Hee. Mostly, I think it depends on the person you're adding to your friends list. Most that I've come across don't mind random friending, but then there are those that are pretty particular about who has them on their list. That kind of LJer will usually put something about it in their profile, though. Leaving a comment or something would be good, but not required, IMO.

Personally, I tend to use the word "watching" in place of "friending" because that friend thing seems needlessly presumptuous to me. Because I may enjoy reading what you have to say, but that doesn't mean I know you well enough to call you a friend, you know?

Anyhoo, I was checking out some of my "favorite" links to see if they were still in business, and saw the note about your LJ on the Low-Tech "Now and Again" website. And in checking out you profile page, I see that I've been reading your LJ through friendsfriends for a while now (recognized the kitty icon -- so cute!), but just never knew it was you. So, here I am about to add you to my own friends list. Please feel under no obligation to friend me back. If you really want to, however, feel free, but I won't be offended in the least if you don't. :)
