Oct. 28th, 2004 06:55 amFor a variety of reasons, not the least being that I shouldn't contribute to LJ drama and that the post in question was a lot more explicit than I thought, I've deleted my last post. The whole issue still bothers me over the question of how pointing fingers can start an investigation, but given the uncertain nature of the story and an inability to verify it, I've decided to delete my original post.
90% of Livejournal knows about this by now, anyway, and while I'm still disturbed by it, my post was contributing to the whole overwrought drama of it all. I don't want that. I'm not retracting my feelings on the issue, just retracting the drama. Should have slept on it before I made a post about it. I am doing this to protect myself from wank, and to apologize for blowing certain parts of the issue out of proportion. I still find it disturbing, don't get me wrong, but mainly because of the supposed source of the tip that apparently set this whole thing off.
The incident that I ranted about is described here. Take it in the original spirit it was intended as - a word of caution. I don't know if it's true, therefore I shouldn't make any major assumptions on how fair it was.
Just as a warning, folks, watch what you say in public posts. I know a lot of people have said this should be common sense, but a lot of us don't think about what we say on LJ. The post it refers to turned out to be a lot more explicit than I thought, but the threat was not real - it was a case of someone posting without thinking. She meant it as a warning, an example of how this kind of thing can come back to haunt you. Take that, at least, to heart.
Okay, I have a meeting in an hour and have not had caffeine or food yet. This must be remedied post haste.

Date: 2004-10-28 08:18 am (UTC)I absolutely and totally am pissed off that somebody cannot express their views publically without getting paid a visit. I'm feisty that way - it just seems to me that it's completely contradictory to freedom of speech.
Anyhow, I'm but a minute atom in the cog of the universe...
But thanks for sharing ANYWAY.
