Picked this one up from [livejournal.com profile] tptigger.

Step 1: Put your media player on random.
Step 2: Pick your favorite lines from the first 25 songs that play.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.

(I've skipped over instrumentals and songs where I can't understand more than the chorus. Some of these are obvious, but, well, they had to be or I'd be cheating.)

1. Fire rages in the streets / And swallows everything it meets / It's just an image often seen / On television

2. The only one who knew me / But now your eyes see through me / I guess I was wrong

3. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end

4. I don't care if you do 'cause it's understood / You ain't got no money, you just ain't no good

5. She's got a club on the moon / And she's telling all her secrets / In a wonderful balloon

6. [She] slipped on a kiss and tumbled into love

7. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck.

8. When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie...

9. Think you'd better cut all that hair / Throw it out the window / Climb down from that tower / Flip the wicked witch the finger

10. Been around the world and found / That only stupid people are breeding / The cretins cloning and feeding / And I don't even own a TV

11. You ride the waves and don't ask where they go / You swim like lions through the crest / And bathe yourself in zebra flesh

12. Who said dark is deep / You'd rather flip the bird / I'd rather show you signs of peace

13. I believe in self-assertion / Destiny or slight diversion / Now it seems I've got my head on straight

14. Underneath your dreamless eyes / Shades of sleep have driven you away

15. Give us this day our daily discount outlet merchandise / Raise up the multiplex and we will make a sacrifice

16. Time asks no questions, it goes on without you / Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace / The world you can't stop it and if you try to / The best part is danger staring you in the face

17. Hey, hey I wanna play on the team that you despise / Every day a new disguise / Every night a Halloween

18. I've never been afraid of any deviation / And I don't really care if I'm strange / I ain't gonna change

19. And when she dances, oh brother / She's a hurricane in all kinds of weather

20. Tudor rose with her hair in curls / Will make you turn and stare / Try and steal a kiss at the bridge

21. I'm sure that you think / You got it all under control / You don't want someone telling you / The way to stay in someone's soul

22. I'd sleep with k.d. lang. Mel Gibson, take a hike! / I think it would be nice to love someone who was alike

23. Her name is Lola, she's a rocker with a nose ring / She wears a two way, but I'm not quite sure what that means

24. Well give your ID card to the border guard / Yeah, your alias says you're Captain Jean-Luc Picard / Of the United Federation of Planets / 'Cause he won't speak English anyway

25. It's like i'm being tied to the hood of a yellow rental truck being packed in with fertilizer and fuel oil pushed over a cliff by a suicidal Mickey Mouse

*I've edited #22 on a second listening since it's such a demented song and the spoken line doesn't do it justice. There's only ONE person on the flist who I think might get it anyway. Oh, and remembering the entire title of #11 isn't necessary. :)

(Edit: Answers are here if you're curious.)

I <3 lyrics quizes!

8. "That's Amore". Sung by whom, when and where (other than your media player) I have no clue.
13. "Stay Home" by Self, from the soundtrack of the first Shrek movie. I <3 that song.
19. "Shake, Shake Senora" by Harry Belafonte, from Beetlejuice.

...

That's all I got.

2) Breakfast at Tiffany's - Deep Blue Something
3) Closing Time - Semisonic (yeah, someone's already got it, I know!)
5) Joyride - Roxette

None of the others ring any bells

You like some weird stuff...

Yep, by Dean Martin. That one came up and I realized the only lines I could use would be patently obvious...

(Besides, after watching an old Friar's Club roast of Dean Martin with Orson Welles mocking that line beautifully, I couldn't resist.)

Yep, all correct. #8 is by Dean Martin (and seriously, that was the only line I could use. Out of context, it is so weird.)

Yep. *goes to cross it off*

Yet another one that was hard to pull an actual lyric out of. :)

Yeah, well, I don't think the song title itself is anywhere in that song. :)

Hmm...*ponders*

Is #11 that "Standing in a Phone Booth..." song with a really really really long name? The one that has a scratchy record sound at the beginning?

And I swear #14 is an Eurythmics song from their Greatest Hits album. I'd grab my CD and reference it, but it's kinda buried under a mountain of crud right now....as is my laptop with its mp3 version....

Ah, yes, with me, recognition and being able to actually name the remaining uncrossed songs are two completely different things...

"Standing Outside a Broken Phonebooth With Money in My Hand" by Primitive Radio Gods. I had to look at iTunes again to remember that one.

Got the artist for #14.. :)

*hits up iTunes Store*

Okay, I think it's "Don't Ask Me Why".
