So I mentioned that for reasons I'm not going into, my DVD/VCR remote met an untimely death due to a severe dunking this weekend. Tried some universal remotes, have tried new batteries for the past two days on the old one, nothing's worked.

Now that I am winning an auction for a new model of that remote on eBay for slightly less than the cheapest dealer price to replace it, guess what has started working again?

ARGH!

(I'm still going to pay if I win. I'm just pissed off at myself, but not so much to go and violate eBay's TOS.)

If you win the auction, you'll have a spare remote should the original flake out on you again. Just hide the new one (after testing it out, of course) so that the old one doesn't know it's in the house. The old one will attempt to lure you into a false sense of security more likely than not, and then up and have a case of the vapors on you as soon as it thinks you need some harrassment.

That's when you calmly pull out the handy-dandy replacement and continue on your merry way, giving the old cantankerous remote a lovely raspberry to boot. :)
