A question for Firefly fans...
Apr. 29th, 2003 09:52 pmQuick post before I go to bed. But I was thinking during lunch break today, and was wondering...
Certain groups of fans tend to "name" themselves, give themselves an identifying pronoun beyond "(insert show here) fan." As far as I know, Farscape fans are "Scapers," Star Trek fans are either Trekkies or Trekkers depending on who you talk to, and Firefly fans are "Browncoats." (right?)
I've always wondered what triggered this, how a particular naming got stuck in the fandom's consciousness and somehow got anchored there. Now Farscape and Trek have been around way too long for me to ask their fandoms, so I just wanted to know: Any Firefly fans out there know how the term "Browncoats" was adopted?
(Bonus Points: Who started referring to Mal as "Captain Tightpants," pray tell? I watched the show, loved it, am not part of the fandom, but I love that description. ;) )
Okay. Bed. NOW.
