Had a rather enlightening and annoying online conversation last night... and in light of that, I'd like to bring something to everyone's attention.

I am not looking for romance online. I do NOT flirt online. If I'm being friendly to you, don't read anything more into that. I don't go for online romances, and not merely because of the horror stories I've heard. It's too easy to misread one's intent if communication is limited to the printed word. You lose the body language, the expressions, the sound of someone's voice that would otherwise clue you in to what they mean or how they feel.

Unless I've actually had a good deal of Real Life communication with you, I'm not going to want to be anything more than friends. I go out of my way to be nice to friends online because they are my friends. Look, just because I talked to you a few times on a forum about fanfic and showed interest in your hobbies doesn't mean I'm looking to suddenly be propositioned out of the blue. It means, hey, I might actually be interested in your hobbies.

And trust me, if a girl's nice to you online, e-mailing her and demanding to know where she lives and where she wants to go out to eat and what she's wearing is only going to add to the overall stalker impression.

Bottom line: If I haven't met you once or twice in Real Life, I am NOT flirting. Please don't try to read too much into what I say.

Pardon the rant, all, but that just had to be said.
