Not dead.

Got through first class of grad school yesterday.

Checkbook is missing.

Spent last hour and a half running back and forth between Payroll and the bank changing my account over because there's nothing to stop someone with the account number and routing number from draining my account over the long weekend.

Hoping that all the pertinent checks have indeed cleared because my register is with the missing checkbook. (Looked like it last I checked online banking.)

Leaving in five minutes to hit the road before the WORST of the traffic hits the Beltway. Oh, but first must stop by rental office to drop off cashier's check from account that won't bounce.

Must make it around Beltway by 4:15 to get to doctor's office before it closes.

Going to New York tomorrow to see [livejournal.com profile] bktheirregular for lunch and see "The Boy from Oz."

...so, that concludes the explanation of Why The Heck Mandi Has Been Absent From Chat And E-mail For Two Days.

Bye! Sorry, no time for site updates!

*sigh*

Okay, the checkbook's been missing for a week. I looked all over my place, my cubicle, my car... I figured I'd left it at Mom's, so I called her. She searched my room twice, didn't find it, so I assumed my memory of reorganizing the purse there was wrong.

Finally, I gave up, freaked out, closed my account - since there was nothing to stop someone from using my account number and the routing number to drain my accounts - and ran back and forth between Payroll and the bank to get things straightened out. (Since Payroll and the bank are on complete and utter opposite sides of my work complex now, that was a LOT of fun.) All the checks I could remember had cleared, I had to call my rental office and tell them to rip up the check I gave them, and had to get a cashier's check to drop in the rental mail slot by Tuesday. It was almost 3, so I signed out, grabbed my things and headed out to my folks so I could get to the doctor's up there before 5 to pick something up.

Got to the doctor's office by 4:30, got to my Mom's by 5, called a friend to see if I'd left the checkbook there, then went up to my room.

Spotted a brown rectangle poking out from beneath the old doll cradle beside the closet door. Guess what it was?

Seems my memory wasn't so fallible after all.

*facepalm*

Well, at least I was right about all the checks...
