Bleah weekend. Let's just say that the lesson was that contingency plans are a must when the weather strikes at you.

One room in the Great White Elephant has been primed and mostly painted, thanks to my mom and stepdad who put in way more hours than they had to. After a month and four electricians, I'm going with the first one who came in back in September. Oh well, no one can give me grief that I didn't shop around. Part of me is ticked off that I just didn't take the offer a month ago - hell, the job might be DONE by now - but at least I know it was a good choice now.

But since it's been so long, we're going ahead and painting anyway. The plan is to continue and mostly finish on Sunday and Monday. *crosses fingers*

I've been MIA because the first debate - the one I'm in - is on Tuesday. The professor wanted to have half our grade depend on the class voting for a "winner" - the losing team would have points deducted based on the number of people they lost by. Neither of the sides of the debate liked that idea. Pretty much the entire class rebelled against that idea, and now she's having the class fill out evaluation scoring forms, but there's still the position statement and actually getting together to meet. Which is kind of tough - our last team meeting was Monday, which was interrupted by a hole the size of a walnut in one of my team members' back tires. Oy. I'm just glad she managed to get the car off the highway and park it safely.

Tonight a family friend is coming over to look at the burner with the bad valve. I really, really, really hope it's not a lost cause and that he can fix it - I can NOT afford to replace the oil burner and have the wiring redone in the same season. I bought the house because the heating system was supposedly functional and could be used for at least this coming winter - if I get a tenant next spring, their rent could go towards a new one. (And if it was busted, I'd have walked or negotiated a much larger reduction in the final price - cracking paint is one thing, but a busted heating system cannot be overlooked.) My only consolation is that I locked in an oil rate well BEFORE Labor Day - I can't imagine what it would have been if I'd waited longer. I just hope that if it has to be replaced, that I can get the oil that was just delivered transferred to the new burner.

And somewhere in the middle of this, I need to call a chimney sweep.

More when I'm sane again. :)
