Hey, look, it's 2008!

WARNING: The following post was composed in fits and starts over the course of the first week of 2008. Therefore, it's more incoherent than usual. I AM NOT DEAD! I have been crazy busy the last 10 days, hence the lack of replies to just about anybody!
New Year's Eve was awesome. I decided a few days before Christmas to throw a New Year's Eve party at my place, since I had the space, was centrally located and didn't think anyone else had any plans. It wasn't well-planned short of "I'll provide food, you all bring desserts and whatever alcohol and entertainment you can think of."
I think I'm going to stick with the low-planning approach.
indigoangelcat wound up bringing almost all the entertainment, between the Wii, the board games and the satellite radio; turning around to find that they'd made my dining room into a mini-rave with glowsticks, the Christmas tree and a mini-glowstick halo for the angel on top cracked me up. And Murphy's Law did not kick in for once and allowed
bktheirregular to come down here. Yay! This marked the first party I had at my place that I actually planned, and it went off really well thanks to playing it by ear and to Mom coming down and helping and making more baked ziti than all of us could eat. :)
After that, I went back to work, and WOW, I don't think I am ever going to take off the entire week between Christmas and New Year's off ever again. First day back, I forgot all my passwords and had to get them reset and we were plunged right back into mad work on a prototype. I earned two credit hours in three days, which for me is pretty good since I am not comfortable with working after nightfall and going back to my car alone at night.
This past weekend, I drove up to PA to see
ganeris and
athersgeo while the latter was in the States. I really, really wish I could have taken more than Monday off. It was fun and great to hang out with them, and I also gained a new appreciation of the edition of D&D we play because it's NOT as complicated as it could be. Good Lord. ;)
Then I stopped in Bel Air on the way back to check on my Dad, who's laid up for a month because of Achilles tendon reconstruction. Which is going to suck, but if it means he can walk without pain anymore... I'm crossing my fingers. And glad he didn't go with the quack who told him that physical therapy would work and didn't bother with the MRI that told them that the tendon was torn.
And now I am back at work. And have to work on the prototype. And that's all for now.
Again: Not dead! Happy New Year!
