I know I've been MIA lately; I've actually had work to do at work this week, and the question of the department picnic has come up. It was originally slated for Thursday.
Hurricane Isabel is supposed to hit our area on Thursday.
Guess what got postponed. :)
I've also been looking at all the in progress stuff on my plate, and I'm kind of amused. Here's a run-down of sorts:
I've also discovered something: I don't dislike my job.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I don't love my job. But I don't want to beat my head against the wall when I'm actually working. (Most of the time, anyway.) I actually take some small measure of satisfaction in getting my code to work or getting a defect fixed or figuring out why, despite all the laws of physics, the app is behaving a certain way. I like most of my co-workers. My hours don't suck. The pay is pretty good.
Do I plan on working where I am for the rest of my life? Um... no. But I'll be okay here for a little while longer. This doesn't sound like a major revelation, I know, but... it's good to be able to say.
Last but not least, I'm getting used to having no life. Too used to it. Overheard at lunch today.
Friend I hadn't seen in a while: "So what have you been up to?"
Me: "Not much. Went to Ireland last week."
Friend: "Not much??"
Me: "Oh. Okay, I guess that does count as something, doesn't it?"
Ireland commentary: Iffy for tomorrow. When I left, my workstation was being upgraded to Win 2000 Professional. I backed everything up, but I know I'll be spending half the day tomorrow restoring my settings.

I've also been looking at all the in progress stuff on my plate, and I'm kind of amused. Here's a run-down of sorts:
- Nothing to See Here - Of all my online projects, I get the most demands from RL friends for more of NTSH. Plenty of ideas, the problem is just that I am a bloody slow artist.
- "The Key and the Sword" - Stalling on rewrites. Must sit down for marathon of 2002 He-Man and Buffy season 7.
- "Sharp Edges" - Marathon of Witchblade S1 and Buffy S5 is definitely a must.
- Untitled NS vignette - Got stalled when I reached an awkward moment and the demons went "Um..." (Hey, it's SUPPOSED to be awkward, okay?)
- "Mona Lisa" - The Now and Again/Tomorrow People cross I considered ages ago but never bothered to outline? Today, out of the blue, the demons gave me the makings of a freaking A-plot setup that the story idea's been lacking. And it seems so obvious, too! Problem is, I'll have to do some research to make it work. (But I can use that story-less headache scene...)
