Probably best suited for the other LJ, but I'm too lazy to log out and back in.

I know I've been MIA this week, I haven't been busy so much as... drawing a blank. For everything. Certain people did not get cell phone meme responses because as much cheering as I thought they deserved, I couldn't think of a thing to say.

Right now, it is in the mid-60's and sunny. Saturday's high is in the high 70's and it's going to get up into the 80s on Sunday and Monday. (Want to bet how many people are going to be calling in sick on Monday?)

I want to go to the beach.

Don't care if it's a long drive.

I know there is a hotel or two I could book at the last minute. Freak heat wave or not, it's still the off season. (And if hotels.com wasn't such a pain to navigate, I'd have booked a room already.)

Of course, there IS that voice in the back of my head that is shrieking about three hours to and three hours from the beach (the darn Chesapeake Bay is in the way!), and is pointing out that I'm going to have to make that kind of trek next month anyway if someone's coming up for graduation.

But a bigger part of me, the kid that grew up at the beach, the kid that routinely waited in her mother's classroom after school was over for us to pack up, get in the car and go straight to the beach (and there's a photo somewhere, too), really really really wants to go do this. While it's nice. Before the torrential rains start up again.

I want to go to the beach on a nice, warm morning. I haven't had the opportunity to do that in a LONG time. The last few trips I made to the beach were with a large group of people, and we had to divide our time to try to do everything and all the nice warm mornings were taken up by other things. Which beach, I'm not sure, but there's a good selection along the Delmarva coast. I'm certainly not getting in the water, but I just miss the feel of the beach in the early morning. It's a weird Mandi thing, all, just smile and nod.

Besides - I have got to get out of here, go do something. Everyone else has plans, but I've been waiting too long to make plans and for a time when no one else is busy and someone can come along for the ride. And most beach trips lately that have been planned have been NUTS. Maybe it's time for some spontaneity.

Naturally, I got the idea last night and couldn't get a hold of anyone. I doubt I'd get any takers on this journey, and I remember what happened the LAST time I went down to the beach. It's been a while, these things happen in sprees, and Murphy's Law may be ready to kick in again.

Oh, well. At least I can escape work now... :)

That sounds like such a cool idea; my aim for the weekend is either lots of writing (how unusual) or going to Birmingham which, while not as cool sounding as the beach, has actually got similar connotations to it. Unfortunately; if I do the Birmingham thing, I'm going to freeze. Which is a bit of a turn off...!

Hope you have a good weekend though :)

It's always good to go out and enjoy yourself once in a while. Hubby and I are still exploring our new neighborhood, so it's quite an adventure.

Have fun at the beach. :)

I'd love to go to a real beach.

We only have one thing around here that barely qualifies - The Gulf of Mexico. Have you ever been to the Gulf of Mexico? No? Let me describe to you a day my sister and I spent there two years ago.

We arrived in Galveston on a whim. It's not too far from Houston, where my sister lives - maybe 45 minutes. We thought it might be fun to fly kites or something. We arrive at the beach and we see the signs.

No fishing.

No swimming.

WARNING - It is recommend you wear shoes while on the shore.

The reason for this? The Gulf of Mexico is the ultimate dumping ground for all the junk that gets tossed into the major rivers that feed it from all over the United States. The water is brown and slimy. You can't fish because the fish you catch are toxic nine times out of ten. Why wear shoes? Broken glass and various other dangerous, sharp things.

Still, it looked nice out there, so my sister and I decided to hang out. We sit on a relatively clean spot on the beach for about ten minutes when I feel a sharp pain on my arm. I brush at is distractedly. Then, I look down at my hand.

It's covered in blood.

In a panic, I jump up, trying to figure out how I possibly cut myself. Turns out, I didn't. See, I had swatted a mosquito that was closer in size to a rabid pelican than an insect. And, man, oh, man, were they ever swarming.

We got out of there pretty quick after that.

Ever since then, I've sort of been turned off of beaches. Still, the one you describe sounds lovely. One of these days, I'll make it up to the East Coast. ^^
