Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] jonathlee and [livejournal.com profile] ladyiapetus: On your current playlist, hit shuffle and pick the first twenty songs on the list (no matter how cheesy or embarrassing), and write down your favourite line of the song. Try to avoid putting the song title in the line. Then, have your friends comment and see if they know the songs.

(Note that I had my ENTIRE DIRECTORY of mp3s up when I did this... so I had to shuffle a few times to eliminate songs without lyrics or those that could not be quoted without part of the title. Some of these are still blatantly obvious.)

1. "They say Confucius does his crossword with a pen / I'm still an angel to a girl who hates to sin"
2. "Long stem roses are the way to your heart but he needs to start with your head"
3. "Well I hear you went up to Saratoga and your horse naturally won / Then you flew your lear jet up to Nova Scotia / To see the total eclipse of the sun"
4. "Your soul is an appalling dump heap overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable, mangled up in tangled up knots."
5. "Half way up and over this rainbow / I heard a shot fire up from a ghetto"
6. "I had Little Richard and that black piano / Oh that sweet Georgia Peach and the boy from Tupelo"
7. "An hour later the cops arrived / By then the entire Glee Club had died (No big loss.)"
8. "The way things go / You get so low / Struggle to find your skin"
9. "You've been a juvenile / With a dolphin smile / With no elbow room / With your body in bloom"
10. "Now here's the part of the song where you'd expect to find a little irony / about how I'd really much rather have you back .... SORRY!"
11. "She said: You're one in a million / You've got to burn to shine, / But you were born under a bad sign, / With a blue moon in your eyes."
12. "I need a photo-opportunity, I want a shot at redemption / Don't want to end up a cartoon in a cartoon graveyard"
13. "You took a pretty picture / And you smashed it into bits / Sank me into blackness / And you sealed it with a kiss"
14. "I want this V-chip out of me, / It has stunted my vo-ca-bu-lar-y."
15. "I'm just a girl with my head screwed on / I'm just a girl with a smoking gun"
16. "Some of us hover when we weep for the other / who was dying since the day they were born"
17. "Well, don't be blind to the big surprise swimming round and round like the deadly hand of a radium clock, at the bottom of the pool."
18. "Father, forgive me, I tried not to do it / Turned over a new leaf, then tore right through it"
19. "Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be, / There's a shadow hanging over me."
20. "Put your faith in a liar's hands / Wanting to believe his words / But never knowing where he stands..."

So... are these as obvious as I think? There's at least 2 I don't think anyone will get. (Mom, if you think about car trips to the beach and songs I always wanted to play, you will get #12.)

#3 is "You're So Vain" but I don't know if it's the Carly Simon original or the Faster Pussycat cover.

#4 = You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.
#7 = The Homecoming Queen's got a Gun, by Julie Brown

And I feel like I /should/ know number three, seeing as it mentions my home province...

1. Woo-hoo, the time is getting closer. Woo-hoo, the time to be aghost...
2. Don't go for second best, baby.
7. Johnny? Who's Johnny??

And now that I've run out of ways to be cute...
19(?--too lazy to go back) "Yesterday", the Beatles

#4 was obvious, but really, the best line that doesn't mention the Grinch... well, that just takes the cake. :)

I'm so tickled that so many people got #7. I really am. (Now I wish we'd have managed to perform that one at Airband...)

Actually, I only got a couple, although many of the lyrics are quite intriguing. "Homecoming Queen's Got a Gun"? Geez, haven't heard that in years! < g > #16 and #18 I'd like to hear.

#16 is "Stay," by Lisa Loeb, which I haven't played in a while. #18 is "It's a Sin" by the Pet Shop Boys.

I'm so amused that so many people are getting #7. :)

< laughing > Dr. Demento's Greatest Hits, Vol 1&2. One of the few tapes everyone in my family could agree on on road trips. ;)

Amen. I think I could sing all of those songs backwards, forwars, and upside down. Did you know that the reverse side of the "They're coming to take me away" 45 had the song sung backwards? Gotta Love Dr. Demento. Oh, and Mandi - Did I mention that Les and I sang #7 at Jill's batchelorette party?

Yep, and I wish I'd been there to see it. I figured you'd get that one. ;)

And this surprises you at all? ;)

Hey, like I said, I dumped my ENTIRE mp3 collection onto Winamp for this... so the results were bound to be random.

#11 is "Woke Up This Morning" (the Sopranos theme)

*grins* I had the CD Power To The Meek's on (Peace, irrc) as my work CD for about three months; the line about the smoking gun was usually the point I had to turn the CD off cos the boss had walked in!

I'm relieved that wasn't a GnR lyric, I think. It at least means my brain hasn't gone competely on the fritz!
