Missed the teaser - I assume that was Brandy's cameo. No great loss.

*twitch* The initial diagnosis had to be ALS, didn't it? *sigh*

Okay, I have decided that Cuddy is a BRILLIANT administrator. $50,000 a year for legal expenses incurred by House alone? She knew exactly what she was getting into when she hired him, there is no doubt about it. A lot of people have been complaining that having Cuddy hire House to begin with didn't make sense, but... if you look back at earlier episodes, I can see it. I like her. I may be in the minority, but when she calmly asked him if he needed a lawyer and explained that she'd already set aside legal expenses, I cracked up laughing. I suspect she waited to force clinic hours on him until it reached a point where she couldn't ignore it anymore.

Loved House's bullshit diagnosis of the judge - or, rather, the plausible diagnosis using bullshit evidence to scare the judge.

Some doctors have a messiah complex, House has a Rubik's complex. That is so utterly appropriate.

Kind of relieved that the DNR ethics arguments died halfway through the ep when they no longer became relevant. I was afraid that since it's sweeps month, the "controversy" would dominate the episode. Whew.

If House ever shows signs of humility, I will either faint dead away or wonder what game he's playing. (Missed the chance for the "He's standing behind me, isn't he?" line.)

The clinic bit was actually relatively dull this week. Although I think it's hard to top House's syphilis-suffering admirer and her spastic son. I still think of her referring to his "bedroom eyes" and giggle maniacally at House's reaction to her poetry. The patient this week - well, I just think he needed to be smacked for ignoring diabetes but freaking out over his sex life.

I can't remember the last time a patient identified with House so well. Then again, if anyone's going to do it, it's going to be someone who can understand his obsession with one thing. (And if John Henry prefers to risk his life over not being able to make music any more, he can definitely identify with that level of - okay, obsession's not the right word, but you know what I mean.)

Heck, I'm quoting the best bit from that scene now that someone quoted it:

John Henry: "I know that limp. I know the empty ring finger. And that obsessive nature of yours that's a big secret. You don't risk jail and your career to save somebody who doesn't wanna be saved unless you've got something, anything, one thing. The reason normal people got wives and kids, hobbies, whatever, that's because they ain't got that one thing that, that hits them that hard and that true. I got music, you got this. The thing you think about all the time, the thing that keeps you solid, moble. Yeah. Makes us great. Makes us the best. All we miss out on is everything else. No woman waiting at home after work with the drink and the kiss. That ain't not gonna happen for us."
House: "That's why God made microwaves."

Seriously, I don't think any other patient has identified so strongly with House's "Rubik's complex" to date on this show.

Oh, and I'm sure the slashers were drooling all over House and Wilson's exchange. Genfic lover that I am, even I could see the slash fans bouncing up and down...

"Yeah. My old philosophy used to be 'live and let live,' but I'm taking this needlepoint class and they gave us these really big pillows."
"What's your philosophy on employee relations?"
"That's a very tiny pillow?"

I'm waiting for Foreman to snap and try to strangle House. Either that, or he's got to deal with his own issues soon.

"50 bucks says I can beat you to the curb." Hee!

For someone who hates touchy-feely moments, House was fairly... dare I say amiable with John Henry at the end. Then again, unlike Hamilton, he didn't think John was a twit.

"Please don't play it." :)

*snerk* Foreman looks just so thrilled, doesn't he? The soundtrack just makes that sour expression so much funnier.

Next week: So that's what really happened to Teri Bauer! She's not dead, she's getting better!

*ducks furniture tossed by other "24" fans*

I'll shut up now. (Hey, it's Fox during sweeps, who knows?)

The best part of the syphilis patient? It's based on a true story.

In Oliver Sacks' book, The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat, there was a woman who developed the neuro stage of syphilis decades after the primary stage. Unlike House's patient, she'd gotten it in a brothel. She diganosed it herself, recognizing it from watching other girls at the brotherl go through the same thing decades before, and went to Sacks (a neurologist) to discuss treatment. Like the patient, she liked the euphoric feelings that she developed, but also knew what it would lead to untreated -- severe brain damage. She was treated and, like on House, the damage was halted but not reversed.
