And the unbelievable has happened...
Oct. 29th, 2002 06:02 pm...after no updates since August 2, the online game Steppenwolf will actually start up its sixth and final chapter on Friday. I stopped checking a month ago; I only found this out by accident.
Okay, we've got the following signs of the apocalypse now:
1) I get picked as a Nielsen family starting the end of this week,
2) My college is abruptly going co-ed next year (I don't care how desperate they are, this is going to come back and bite the Board of Trustees if they don't reconsider and try a better transition plan),
3) And now Chapter 6 of SW is actually coming out.
I'd also like to take the time to say something spawned from recent personal experience.
To people who tailgate on exit ramps: STOP. There's no point. The REASON the limit on the curvy exit ramp is 25 mph is so that people don't skid, bounce off the guardrail and go into a tailspin. The person in front of you is going the speed limit because they don't want to go through that. So deal, it's not like they're slowing you down on a long stretch of highway.
To people who let such folks get to them: DON'T. I don't care how close said person is following you. It's not worth it to speed up a notch and risk going into a skid because the guy behind you's in a hurry.
And so concludes my pointless rambling for the week.

Date: 2002-10-29 04:11 pm (UTC)Hood's going co-ed? As in, the guys are getting a residence hall? And some actually want to attend?
There's a big shiny word printed over this, first two syllables: cluster.

Actually... the Board of Trustees hasn't really detailed any sort of plans on how they're gonna do this, just that they're gonna let some guys move in starting Fall 2003. No idea which dorm's going co-ed (my money's on Meyran because Coblentz is too small, alums would riot if they used Shriner, and our Res Life Head has had it in for Meyran since she started at Hood), if they're blocking off one dorm for guys, if they're going to make a dorm co-ed, how many guys they'll admit...
Oh, aside from the complete lack of a good transitional plan, the story leaked to the papers before the students were even told. So my friends who are still there are NOT happy. Personally, I think the Board is just shooting themselves in the foot with this one. They suddenly announced this in the midst of a prospective weekend, and went completely over the President's head. They hired a football nut as Hood's new athletic director, which doesn't bode well. (I mean, for crying out loud, Goucher spent 5 years in transition; do they really think they're gonna be able to spring something like this so quickly and get enrollment UP??)
It's a pity, too - I got to check out Hodson now that it's been renovated and expanded, and it looks pretty damned good.
Okay, cutting off rant and getting some breakfast now... :)
