Well, I didn't make it overnight. And it was in Lecture Hall 5, not Lecture Hall 3.

[livejournal.com profile] jennies was spontaneous enough to agree to come down for it, and we made it from around 7 pm until 1:45 am, at which point I declared that if we were going to make it back to Ellicott City without me falling asleep on the road, we had to leave then. But we got a lot of anime viewing in:

Combustible Campus Guardress 1-2: Really weird anime that inspired a lot of running commentary from the assembled audience. It tries to be occasionally serious, but then the good guys launch attacks like the Japanese housewife's Curry attack and the Pretty Bird attack against demons and I'm falling out of my chair laughing.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds: The Miyazaki film from 1984 that Disney just redubbed. I'd read the manga, and it was interesting (and I swear I must have seen an older bad attempt to dub it in the 80's - I remember the scene where they fall through the quicksand into a clean, pure area clear as day), but as Jen put it, it was also a bit of an acid trip.
Comic Party 1-2: Okay, this one was cute. Modern day anime, with the main character discovering and being sucked into the world of doujinshi thanks to his manipulative classmate Taishi. I may want to see more of this only because Taishi is truly an evil genius.
I don't remember the title: For the heck of it, an episode of a Chinese period series was shown, mainly because it involved a lot of sword fighting and a guy who drop-kicked both a horse and wagon. And the main characters had one-track minds (how many times did they say, "Let's go inside and drink!")
Miami Guns 10-11: Jen and I voted for this one, and it barely beat Sailormoon S (which is why I stuck around). Amusing pair of destructive cops that woke up the entire San Viano precinct in Jen's head and started commentary on whether or not an officer exchange would make Vernon miss Ferdia and Squeaks. Also had to love the line "Daddy? I broke a train. Can you send five billion dollars to pay for it?" And the series' resident bishie, Julio, who is smarter than anyone else in the cast, amused me. Why he has a pet crocodile is beyond me, although I think that's a nod to Don Johnson. (The person who brought it described it as "Tank Police meets Excel Saga," which was enough of a selling point for me.)

Next semester, I'll find out about this ahead of time so a) I don't go to work at 6:30 am that morning, b) can alert the SisterHood well in advance, and c) I'll be able to stick around longer and maybe bring something to donate to Viewer's Choice. I have a good collection of anime, but a lot of it is fairly "standard" stuff that most of this crowd has seen time and time again (Fruits Basket, Trigun, Vision of Escaflowne, His and Her Circumstances, Princess Nine).

*facepalm* And I forgot to ask Jen about Vegas. Damn. Well, D&D is tonight, so I'll remember this time.

Also on the anime front, Otakon's website still isn't offering pre-registration. Oh, well. So much for the second half of April, guys...

Yes, this was tons of fun. I'd like to see more Comic Party and Miami Guns. (Not only has the discussion of temporary officer transfers yet to cease, but I think Casey's begun pawing through Ferdia & Squeaks' open case files in search of possible Miami connections that might justify a trip to the east coast. And Trevor's not helping, either...)

I want to say the live-action series was "Legend of the Condor Heroes", but all I really remember of its title is that it involved condors and heroes. ^_^;
