...I really would have preferred a quiet day to get back to the grind after this weekend. Getting sick this morning and going in late anyway because I didn't think it merited a full day off and because I thought it'd look suspicious calling in the whole day after Memorial Day weekend was probably not the best idea. See, when it takes you 10 minutes to come up with a fix and then 30 minutes tracking down data that will currently let me get to the page to test the fix, you know it's going to be an interesting day. Especially when you repeat this process many times for five straight hours. I practically ran out the door before someone could find another defect to throw at me. Gaaah.

Then again, I am grateful that I had the ability to escape at 5 and don't have to wait by the phone in case I have to be called back in at all hours. I like my job, it's not without stressful days, but those days are nothing compared to the usual crap that other employers dole out.

Anyway. Went to visit [livejournal.com profile] blue_soulfire and Mayhem down in Newport News this weekend. Lots of fun, and yes, I am damned amused that we went an hour in the wrong direction before I sat up in the back, blinked, and said, "Wait. Why are we headed for 301 NORTH?" I am only a good navigator when I pay attention. :) I did actually drink a bit, and it is worth noting that I am apparently better at Star Wars Trivial Pursuit while drunk. Go figure.

Unfortunately, as I was reminded as soon as I got to work today and the mortgage lender called me while I was trying to decipher a defect, eat lunch and explain to someone what was happening with a certain case on my end... there's still a lot of insanity to deal with here. Seriously. If you don't see me on IM or hear from me on LJ, I'm trying to get my shit together this week. The big, important stuff that has to be decided on so I can get back to the little things. Like ironing clothes and picking up the apartment.

And it's after 8, and certain people haven't called me back. I need to be in bed early, so I'm going to go be a pain in the ass now.

I navigate fine, but I have to actually be navigating and PAYING ATTENTION. See, I was sitting in the backseat reading manga and it didn't dawn on me where we were until after we'd crossed the Bay Bridge.

I take solace in the fact that I have yet to beat out Lisa Dreisch in college. I still remember that she took a wrong turn trying to get back to campus and no one realized it until we crossed state lines into Pennsylvania (north of Maryland) and someone exclaimed, "Hey! If we're going south to Frederick, how did we get to Hanover?"

At least we didn't get to Delaware before I realized what was up this time. :)

: ) i'm a spastic navigator. sometimes i do really well (i managed to get us back to Flagstaff, AZ from G'99 in Dallas, TX without a map or directions), and sometimes i'm dreadful (see above note regarding San Diego). i have since become a Mapquest junkie. especially now that i can download the directions and maps into my PocketPC. i still get frequently lost though, 'cuz i forget to check my mileage at critical points. silly me. : )

That sounds like something I did. I was going to college in the middle of Illinois, and I had to get to a wake for a friend of mine near St. Louis. So I was upset and in a hurry. When I ended up crossing the state line in Indiana, I realised that I had made a mistake. . .8O
