So, I got my car yesterday - they checked everything they could think of and couldn't duplicate the hiccups, and didn't charge me a cent. But I completely forgot that Jewel is due for an oil change anyway, and didn't ask to get that done. Oops. (I think I'll just take her to the Catonsville service center for that.)
Went to see The Lion King at the Hippodrome with Mom, Chris and Shannon last night. After my initial disorientation from trying not to visualize the movie while watching the show, I was really impressed. The set design and costumes were fabulous, and the scene changes were a lot more automated than you'd expect at the Hippodrome (the rotating Pride Rock, the steam vents, the foliage that emerged from the stage and pulled back for certain changes). As odd as the costuming seemed at first, it was a lot better and a lot more expressive than having all the actors in animal suits. I felt kind of bad for the actor who played Scar; he was excellent, but every time he spoke I had to smack myself to keep from comparing his voice to Jeremy Irons. And the dance ensemble - oh, my GOD. Not only were they excellent, I am amazed at people who can dance literally on stilts as giraffes the entire time and who can manage to animate a cheetah costume and operate an elephant while there are 30 other people crowding the stage. And the musical did stay very close to the movie - most of the same lines, and they even kept in Timon and Pumbaa's Pride Rock diversion (with the Charleston instead of the hula, but hey).
My one regret is that I forgot my binoculars - we had a great view of the stage, but I would have liked to get a closer look at the costumes. So I bought a program just to see some of the shots up close. That is, I was going to buy one, but Mom went ahead and paid for it.
The only problem was the sound, which may have been due to the Hippodrome's acoustics - the music tended to drown out the singers occasionally - except maybe for the actress who played Rafiki, but she had an incredible set of lungs. As I pointed out to some people who were discussing it during intermission, the up side was that it also drowned out the children in the audience who were either too young or not well disciplined enough to be quiet during the show. :)
Had yet another epiphany regarding my posture with tai chi. Nothing seemingly major, but I tend to be "too proud" in my posture and finally managed to visualize it so I keep from lifting the chest in wu ji. And I've been taking classes for how long? Oy, if I was truly studying it as a martial art, my teacher would have probably given up on me by now or made me stand in that position for an hour. :)
Termite inspection showed that the house has no termites; it was treated several years ago, and aside from determining the status of some supports, it looks clear. Dad, if you're reading this, check your e-mail, I sent you a note about the settlement date if you can still come.
Anyway, even though I've got way too many memes passed to me that I haven't done, I'll just tackle the song meme:

List your current six favorite songs, then pick six other people that have to do the same.
(In no particular order since I can never pick a favorite.)
1) "Aria" - Delerium (It is so hard to stay in a bad mood listening to this. It just makes me think of clear skies.)
2) "Stress" - Jim's Big Ego (I remain convinced that this is my anthem, even though I'm not as bad as the speaker in the song.)
3) "Ready Steady Go" - L'Arc-En-Ciel (Yeah, I got it because of Fullmetal Alchemist, but I really like the song even though I don't know Japanese. I did look up the translation, of course.)
4) "Seven Deadly Sins" - Flogging Molly (Drunken pirates! Yay! ...come on,
jennies has rubbed off on me by now.)
5) "I Wish I Was a Lesbian" - Loudon Wainright III (This song is so freaking twisted, I die laughing every time I hear it. What makes it even funnier is that the singer's a guy. It's WRONG, but I laugh anyway.)
6) "Writing on the Wall" - Blackmore's Night (Great driving song, and I actually like the live concert version more than the original. Huh.)
Baton passed to... (okay, who HASN'T done this? *checks friends' journals*)

Bleah, this post has gotten long enough. One meme is good.

Date: 2005-06-11 01:47 am (UTC)1) "Come My Way" - InuYasha Season 5/Season 6 Closing Theme (Because I'm obsessed. OBSESSED, I tell you! ...but not enough to look up the ACTUAL name and artist...)
2) "Abandoned Theme / The Obelisk Device (Remix)" - Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Because it is pretty and haunting and random)
3) Dragonfly - The Cruxshadows (This one gets all the creativity demons going nuts, plus it's good for open highways)
4) Dam Dariram - Joga (Gets the brain moving in overdrive even when nothing else will)
5) My Beloved - VNV Nation (It's pretty, and it gets all the tragic creativity demons out and thinking when I don't feel like stoppin' em. Plus, I can't remember the name of the high-energy song (Track 02) from FuturePerfect, which would be the contender for this slot, I suppose. That one gets all the battle-scene demons moving.)
6) It's a Sin - Pet Shop Boys (Nothing like stoking the ol' fires of villany to get the creativity demons going. Very versatile for conflict or open roads. Do not play when trying to get onto a military base unless you want to receive VERY weird looks. ^_^; )
So, yeah, there you go, my six favorite songs of the hour. I'll probably have shuffled and swapped some around by the time the playlist ends, but oh well.
