Busy weekend, so here's the run-down, LJ-cut for people's sanity. The house will be referred to as the Great White Elephant until it is livable, because it amuses me. :)
Friday: Spent on the phone and trying to pack. Nothing of major interest.
On Saturday, however, Death, Plague, War, and others descended upon the Great White Elephant. That is, they helped me move as much as I could into the house, which was about everything I could fit into both cars. Packing isn't easy when you're still not sure when you're going to be able to move in. After a false start with my bad directions, we got down there in good time and put everything in the side office. Eileen and Kent showed up around noon, and Kent gave me some suggestions on what sort of units to get, as well as checked the fixtures for ceiling fans. The only hitch is the completely door-less doorframe in between the screened-in Florida room and the back bedroom - it's about 1/4 of an inch smaller than standard size. All the bi-folding doors I looked at in the Home Depot are 32" wide where the frame is something like 31 3/4".
The former owner is a very nice lady, but I can't help but wonder what she or her husband was thinking when they decided not to put any door there whatsoever. I've got to put something up, though, so the air from the A/C unit in the bedroom doesn't just get sucked outside.
Meanwhile, Eileen and Kent had to bring along their two youngest girls, so Amy and Kara were running wild around the house. They were fine, though; apparently, they got a lot of enjoyment out of hiding in closets and checking to see if the player piano in the basement worked. Did yell at them when they ran down the basement steps and scared me into thinking someone had fallen off (there's no railing on the steps yet).
As for the tally of stuff I needed to get to make the place livable: large A/C unit for the front dining room, small A/C unit for the bedroom, ceiling fans to install in the front room, (maybe) the entry room and in the family room, and a heavy-duty dehumidifier for the basement. It was dry when we looked at the house, but the sheer insane monsoon season of last week made it damp as anything. And shortly before we left, Dad showed up with a lawnmower.
So it was productive, even if most of it was brain-storming. Afterwards, we headed back to Fredneck to hang out and get dinner and because I was going to spend the night there anyway...
Okay, I'm going to just have to break this up into multiple posts. More on the weekend later, I need to go to bed. :)
