Halloween...
Oct. 31st, 2005 03:34 pm...well, it is.
On Friday, when I came back to find that my mom, stepdad and godparents had painted the entire back room and subsequently took them all out to dinner, I heard that they were planning to extend Daylight Savings: to have it start in March and end in November, rather than April-October.
Why not just stop changing the clocks altogether? Leave it at Daylight Savings and forget about it! Frankly, I don't get it; if I'm going to have to go one way to work in the dark, I can handle it in the morning. And most of my chores are done in the afternoon - who goes to the grocery store on the way to work? So I'd prefer to have more daylight to get things done, rather than have it cut off even earlier when the days are getting shorter already! It's also ridiculous to kick the crap out of your internal clock when you have to set the clocks back/forward after six months. Man, if I didn't have the option to go walking on my lunch break, I would get no exercise in the winter because of this.
So, back on topic: The back room from hell, the one with the peeling paint that had to be replastered, is painted and looks SO MUCH BETTER. The wiring is in progress. I might have a properly working dining room light in a day or two. Since absolutely everything and everyone held events on Friday, I missed the Anime Society meeting but made it to a friend's for her party instead. (Since half my lunch group got moved to other buildings, I never see them any more. It's really sad.) I cheated at the party and wore the "COSTUME" T-shirt Mom gave me last year. I'll just wear last year's red dress, headpiece and wig for this year's trick-or-treaters. (I'd have worn my Otakon costume, but I forgot I peeled the patch with the kanji off the jacket so I could use it for other things.)
Oh, and does anyone know why LJ is suddenly cracking down and throwing hissy fits over passwords that match a word in the dictionary even with the inclusion of random numbers? Have there been massive account hijackings or something?

Date: 2005-10-31 10:11 pm (UTC)I think the techgods at LJ have been beefing up their security of late, b/c I got their password-dictionary message last week. It might just be a random check for weak passwords. (As a fellow govt worker, I'm sure you know about those pwd scans InfoSec runs every now & then to snag all those that haven't bothered r3VgUp their passwords since the last proclamation from the mountain-top....)
As for daylight savings, I myself don't mind it. I mean, there's a point in midsummer where the sun's coming up at 0500, and w/out Daylight Savings, that'd be 0400, which is too damn early to be listening to twittering birds, IMHO. And since most people aren't up by 0500, let alone 0400, it makes sense to shift the clocks and max daylight hours. Shifting them *back* in the fall is mainly to prevent days where it's 0800 and the sun's not up yet, since the majority's school/work commute hits around 0630 - 0800 and since the drivers of the world are hellbent on proving that Man cannot properly operate a sedan, shave, talk on the phone, and avoid schoolchildren pedestrians while partaking of his morning coffee. :P
But, then, it's a proven fact that my internal clock is a very laid back creature. This comes in very handy when travelling across time zones and/or shifting between nocturnal/diurnal habits, but it is not a skill I have figured out how to pass on to others...
