"Gee, did they forget to tell someone?"
Feb. 24th, 2005 10:41 pmSorry I've been quiet, all; did watch House this week, but haven't much energy to comment on it.
The snowstorm DID roll into Maryland today after a pithy start; nothing was sticking by 7:30, so I said the hell with it and went into work, figuring I'd take sick leave and just leave early. SSA wasn't closed or delayed, so hey.
At about 2:40 today, I was filling out my leave slip when one of the security guys and one of the custodial staff started coming around telling people they could leave.
Apparently, the road conditions made the higher-ups decide to close the buildings early and let everyone go at 2:30 today. They made the decision around noon, updated the emergency traffic recording (that you get when you call an 800 number to check if anything's actually delayed), let security know...
...but they sort of forgot to inform the employees who were ALREADY in the building about this. The security guard who'd been passing the word around realized that when it was 2:30 and the expected stampede of people leaving didn't occur. Our supervisors had to make a couple of phone calls to verify it.
Heh. Got to love working for the government.
Anyway. Have a cough that will not die and my throat is itchy (the latter symptom has me worried), and had incredible attack of the chills when I got home. It took three blankets, three cups of tea and one hot shower to do something about it.
So those 2 hours of sick leave I didn't have to use today just may be saved for tomorrow. Provided the roads are passable and I can get through the division meeting. (And since I suspect we're discussing where they plan to move us during Stage 2 of the renovations, I will either be there or be calling Helen after the fact asking for details.)
Dammit, I'm getting chilly again. Must brush teeth, get all the blankets I can find and cocoon myself in bed. I really don't want to be sick. I mean, making it from August to the end of February without catching a cold is a personal best for me, but you know... it still sucks. (At the very LEAST, I cannot be holed up at home sick before I've bought a DVD recorder so I can spend my time transferring my many many show tapes to DVD.)
Yeah, I know, my priorities are weird. So? :)
