If I could express the mother of all facepalms here, I would.

(For those not in the know, there's a sudden onslaught of LJ account suspensions - a lot of fandom accounts are being inaccurately reported as being in violation of LJ's TOS, and Six Apart is flailing over liability fears. You can find a detailed information post on the subject here. A lot of the deletions seem to be solely based on interests.)

ETA: Rumor has it that the Warriors For Innocence site (which I am NOT LINKING HERE) is laden with spyware. If you go through the informational posts, avoid going to that site.

Another reason to be dubious of these groups' motives.

Now one of the more legitimate watchdog groups has some actual concerns about pedophiles posting about their activities to LJ and mostly doing so in a locked post so that they can't report things by post, but we'll see what happens now that this other group has had so many sites TOS'd.

There's got to be a way to weed out the bad apples without pulling down everyone's journals.

Yeah, I found it kind of amusing that Perverted Justice mocked LJ's mad panic suspensions. And despite the blanket suspensions, they apparently missed some accounts that were actually reported as dangerous.

Really, they just proved PeeJ's earlier claim that LJ doesn't bother to examine the contents of accounts reported to them.

I'm not getting up in arms about this, I'm mostly facepalming over the wank, and my real issue is that LJ handled the abuse issues in a half-assed manner and only when their legal team pointed out that *gasp* they could be sued. Not only that, they sat on the issue and let it build up into mass panic before finally issuing a statement. I suspect that had the news post gone up three hours earlier, there'd be a lot less people leaving LJ. But they talked to the press first, the community last, and they let the panic and anger fester.

It's just all a mess.

Heya. Sorry I didn't get back to you on AIM earlier... I didn't get out of work until 9:30 pm my time. I'm off Thursday and Friday.

Okay... here's the thing...

OBVIOUSLY none of these people have actually READ the TOS that they AGREED to when they signed up for LJ. Another case of "I'm too impatient to pay attention to the rules".

They all agreed to these terms. They all violated them openly and brazenly. To the point of putting them in their interests. They did it to themselves. WIF are crackheads, but LJ has to cover their asses or they can be held liable.

There's nothing inaccurate about being in violation of TOS because your interests are "Rape" and "Incest". It IS a violation. Sorry.

Since the facepalm was directed at most of the wank in general... are you having the same kind of week I am, or have you been restating this opinion a lot over LJ in the last 24 hours?
