I AM DONE WITH COBOL TRAINING!

...and now I have cleaning to do. Yet this is still better.

Did it go well? In any case, yay for it being over!

I didn't kill the instructor, or the lady with the hearing problem behind me who loudly asked questions that had already been answered and argued with the instructor about them while I was trying to do the lab exercises. So yes, it went well.

Great! I took a COBOL course lo these many years ago, and found myself in concurrence with the saying that COBOL was invented by pencil manufacturers. (I guess that's not so funny anymore now that no one actually hand-writes code.)

The instructor actually expected us to get by totally on hand-written notes following her chicken-scratch code all over the whiteboard. For a two-week class.

Only reason I didn't drop it the second day was because I showed her my horrid attempt at following her lectures and convinced her to let us type up our notes and examples so they'd be semi-legible.

Hand-written notes! Ah, you make me nostalgic for the days of punch cards...

Seriously, most people aren't used to writing by hand the way we used to be, and I'm in total sympathy with you. I mean, it gives me cramps to write more than a few paragraphs by hand now, especially if it's fast copying of notes.

Why didn't she just hand out typed stuff? *grumble*

I HAVE NO IDEA. She did that for the 3-day JCL class, which is why that was even more mind-boggling.

It wouldn't have been an issue if she wouldn't write a block of code and then say, "And this would have to be before it" and insert 4 lines above the 5 she'd just written. Or to the left or right. And I'd try to squeeze it in and have arrows all over the page and just give up and facepalm.

Talk about your spagetti code!

I guess she believes in learning through pain.
