Friday morning fic rec...
Jan. 9th, 2004 09:55 amOkay, I've got a Friday morning fic rec for you all. However, before I get to that, I must state the following important things about this fic:
1) It's a work-in-progress. It has not been abandoned, but the author's got several fics going right now.
2) On Tuesday, the aforementioned author's computer went kablooey. She's still trying to get the next parts through a beta, but obviously her Net access is now limited.
If you read this and send feedback, DO NOT HARASS THE AUTHOR ABOUT NOT FINISHING. Right now, Real Life and a dead PC are making it really hard for her.
I mention this not merely out of compassion for the author, but because I personally would like to see further parts. And scolding an author for not posting new parts is the most effective way to KILL any inspiration he/she may have for said story. Anyone who takes a fanfic author to task for a lack of progress - especially since the author usually has little control over this - is only going to make it harder for new parts to come out. So don't do it. I want her to be able to post more.
And if you don't like having to wait for new parts of stories, then don't read it. Heck, I'll post an update when she's done for those of you who despise WIPs.
Capisce? :)
So, without further ado:
Title: "Fragile Existence"
Author: Laney
Series: BtVS/Stargate crossover
Spoilers: Buffy season 7 to "Lessons" (AU after that) and Stargate season 7 to "Fragile Existence."
Premise: Jack's teenage clone has a chance to start over and maybe help the SGC out... by transferring to Sunnydale High.
Why I Like It: Two major things make this crossover stand out. First and foremost is the excellent characterization; Laney gets into teenage Jack's head perfectly. His train of thought, reactions, and voice are spot on and utterly believable. Second off is the fact that she does not ignore his issues. The fic is tentatively listed as a Dawn/teenage Jack pairing, and while crossover pairings squick me... Laney may pull this one off. After lots of issues, angst, and more issues. She doesn't gloss over the serious problems that pairing would have, nor does she ignore the fact that despite teenage hormones, Jack is still mentally almost fifty.
