Mar. 25th, 2008 09:07 pmOkay then. The last five days in review:
1) Babysat a five year old typhoon of adorable for 20 hours.
2) Cleaned up post-typhoon going back to her folks, and dug out all the leaves trying to choke my plants to death in the back yard. (Except for the ones in the ivy, which tries to choke everything else so turnabout is fair play.)
3) Spent Easter morning at Grandma's in an emergency capacity and to keep the dog from freaking out while my aunt worked. Caught up with family, ran home to pick up some things and grab sodas to bring to Easter dinner.
4) Went back to work. Wondered why people keep thinking it's a good idea to keep trying to put me in charge of stuff I don't understand when we're on a compressed schedule.
5) Class. ...I got a 78% on the midterm due to blanking on SLIDES I REVIEWED A DOZEN TIMES WTF. Have discovered that at least half the articles I found for the project paper are Sir Not Relevant To This Topic. *sigh*
6) Got home, pulled into the driveway and... someone had mowed my front lawn. Not the next door neighbor. Weird. So I went inside, dumped my bags by the door, wandered into the kitchen. Which was clean. Backpedaled into the dining room because there were cookbooks there that I hadn't left there. And an Easter basket complete with deaf chocolate bunny. And a quilt rack with the quilt Mom made me hanging on it. And the house was clean, and vacuumed, and there was quiche and a dyed Easter egg in a cup in the fridge and a container of Irish cream.
The moral of the story is: MY MOM AND STEPDAD ARE AWESOME.
And Mom has an unhealthy addiction to the ears of my chocolate bunny rabbits.
Hope you all had a Happy Easter.

Mar. 20th, 2008 08:25 amHaving a power outage while I'm in the shower last night: annoying, but could be worse since it only lasted an hour and a half.
Having the power go out AGAIN in the middle of the night, resetting ALL my alarm clocks that I'd just reset before going to bed and only getting me up by the grace of the emergency cell phone alarm: suuuuck.
March weather, you suck. Is it spring yet?

On the one hand: If I got LUCKY,* I got a B. At best.
On the other hand: If I hadn't studied like crazy all week, I'd have pretty much failed the class already.
(We spend an entire lecture on knowledge inference, but that's nowhere on the exam and she gives an essay question on a search algorithm mentioned in one article that proved to be inefficient anyway? WTF?)
*If I got full credit for everything I didn't leave blank because I couldn't think of anything. And there was a LOT of BS.

bah midterm.
Mar. 8th, 2008 06:10 pmSo, is it just me, or is it easier to get distracted by completely petty garbage when you're supposed to be studying for a midterm?
...because the subconscious desire to NOT try to memorize the characteristics of information retrieval models and algorithms would probably explain why I keep dwelling on completely non-RL-related stuff that I know is silly.

I haven't commented on Gary Gygax's death because, well, everyone's done so more eloquently than me.
But my favorite tribute so far has to be Order of the Stick. So I'm just going to link it here.

Why Flogging Molly is awesome.
Mar. 6th, 2008 12:25 pmOkay, since the people who grabbed the set lists after the show still haven't posted them anywhere I can find, I'm just going to try to work from my bad memory. Yay.
Saturday night,
jennies,
debrika and I went to see Flogging Molly at Ram's Head Live in Baltimore. Their new album, Float came out on Tuesday - which, like the band, is awesome.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. There's a reason ( we had to buy tickets online a month in advance and the show was sold out. )
I have NEVER SLEPT IN AS LATE IN MY LIFE as I did the next day. But it was so, so worth it.

Blanket hiatus of sorts
Mar. 4th, 2008 09:21 amOkay, this morning's pity party has come and gone. (Reason why is f-locked and whiny and RL-related and no threat to life, liberty or sanity.)
Having said that, I know a lot of people are waiting for me to follow through on: RP stuff, beta comments, reviews, memes (hey
sinanju I didn't forget I've just been blanking on it), and everything else. So to all of you: I'm going to be very slow in getting back to you this week. Have a midterm in Applications of Intelligent Systems next week, and the pity party's forced me to re-evaluate a couple of things. I will get back to everyone, it's just going to take me this side of forever to do so.
Also, I can't update it to reflect this til I get off work, but I'm finally going to stop taking e-mail recipes for the Jelly Belly page. I plan to put up ALL the recipes I've received, but starting today I'm not taking any more recipes. My entire website needs to be gutted, in point of fact. God knows when I'm going to do that, but - it hasn't undergone any sort of major overhaul since 2000, and you can really tell.
Anyway, stuff to do.

To the women in my family: STOP FALLING AND BREAKING BONES. THIS IS NOT A GOOD TREND TO BE SEEING IN A SINGLE MONTH.
To everyone else: Yeah, I'm fine, said family members are (relatively) okay, situation normal, but that review's going to wait a day or two due to family-induced near-heart-attacks this morning.

BB #24 pre-review. Yeah, you heard me.
Feb. 28th, 2008 04:32 pmSooo... I did promise something resembling a coherent review for BB #24. And I intend to deliver. But my squeeing resulted in Mom giving me a prelude: why get so excited over a comic book?
Here's your answer, Mom, and this issue ( embodied all the reasons why I adore this series. (Cut for moderate spoilers and a lot of tl;dr) )
Yeah, yeah, real review coming. But this had to be said.

Please take note of the new tag in the event you miss my exaggeration and think I truly have gone over the deep end. This will persist until people (yeah, there's more than one) stop worrying unnecessarily. I DO NOT LIKE STRESSING PEOPLE.
Love you guys, but really: one silly moment and I get "OMG are you okay" calls. Please don't go increasing your stress levels on my behalf.
And yes. The comic book issue I ran out to get was just that awesome.

Blue Beetle #24
Feb. 27th, 2008 12:18 pmHOT DAMN.
Not even the usual flailing and rambling's going to cover the initial reaction here, folks. Going to have to actually re-read and review this and that has to wait til I get home.
Note to
jennies and those who don't know the history of the past two Blue Beetles - reread issue #8 before reading the last page. Otherwise, it will NOT MAKE SENSE. (No, I'm not explaining it here.)
ETA to family: I'm fine. Let me fangirl over one of the few comics I read. I'd give the blow-by-blow of how today was crazy and how I stayed on top of it anyway, but I wanted to actually post something positive instead of more work boring.

Feb. 19th, 2008 12:20 pmOkay, so, I have officially FAILED at the PW playthrough. Aside from that first case, I honestly haven't had the time or been able to justify taking the time to pick up my DS at all, much less replay any of the cases these past two weeks. The public posts that you've seen the past 2 weeks? All the posts I've made here, period.
Work has been non-stop crazy, and school... well, I've been putting in more hours than I should in trying to get assignments done. The last homework should NOT have taken a total of 12 hours to get done (especially since half of that was spent trying to find a real-world case of search engine manipulation or something done to prevent it - everything's theoretical and none of the papers let you know if it's been done in practice).
I'm not complaining. Things haven't been bad, just... ridiculously busy. I need to reorganize my time management again because this semester's class is nowhere NEAR as structured as the last two and estimating how much time deliverables will take isn't as easy. Work is also weird, but I'll get into that later.
I have been using the "not dead" tag WAY TOO MUCH LATELY.

Feb. 14th, 2008 09:53 pmHappy birthday,
bktheirregular. You won't see this til tomorrow, but still. :)
Sorry I was so braindead on IM last night.
Everyone else: Work + grad school are topping me. More later. In a day or two.

AJ Countdown, 1-1: "The First Turnabout"
Feb. 3rd, 2008 03:00 pmOKAY. There was supposed to be a day's late commentary here due to yesterday's EPIC HEADACHE.
The wrong keystroke combination just deleted the WHOLE THING. So: bullet points!
( Now if this gets nuked, I'm just going to skip it entirely. )
...and I'm going to post this before I accidentally nuke it.

Since I'm the only Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney fan among my LJ friends that I know of and if not, hey, let me know!, I'm going to post a sort of warning:
I'm going to attempt to take part in the Ace Attorney countdown playthrough for the hell of it even though I deny half the events of Game 4. I'll be LJ-cutting my rambling and I also don't expect to make it more than a few days; the only way I could justify doing this was because I'm not allowed to do the playthroughs til after I've finished my class readings. (Given how dry some readings are... yeah.)
So, any posts of mine with this tag can be ignored as you won't understand 90% of what's behind the cuts and there will be rampant spoilers anyway.
