Luciano Pavarotti died today at the age of 71.
This seems a little surreal to me. Maybe it's because I grew up listening to Pavarotti, because Dad would pull out the record every chance he got (usually when we had spaghetti), because I still remember going to hear him in concert with Grandma and Dad. I'm not a fan of opera, but I can honestly say that his music is inextricably tied in with my childhood memories.
And now he's gone.
Just doesn't seem real somehow.

Date: 2007-09-06 07:05 pm (UTC)My biggest memory of him though comes from a movie my mother watched several years ago: "Yes, Georgio!", which was about a famous opera singer who loses his voice during a world tour and, in order to treat it sees a female throat specialist. The two end up falling in love, and the story moves on from there... had some funny and romantic scenes, including a sequence where Georgio takes his lady back to his private estate, and their loveplay makes life a bit hectic for his Oriental housekeepers; Kwan and his wife. ^_^
He was a grand master and his voice will sorely be missed.
