Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] naval_mayhem!

Okay, more of the con report. I didn't take extensive quotes this year, but you know what? Maybe that'll permit me to actually FINISH this one. If I ran into you and I left you out, please comment and remind me, I'm not posting this to Ask Greg til it's done.

Friday, June 22: 'Bad Guys is Love.' )

Ugh. You know when you don't remember falling asleep, but you figure you must have because you're wide awake at 5 am and are fine getting to work and getting through work and then around 3 pm you start to CRASH completely and realize that you don't remember falling asleep because you DIDN'T fall asleep?

Yeah, um, part two of the con journal is pending. Sorry.

*throws a distraction at friends list and runs*

Instead, I give you Carmine in his natural habitat. )

Okay, I'm going to take a crack at my G2007 con journal NOW rather than wait on it. Since I didn't have much of a brain for remembering quotes, and because I came back to work to find a landslide (and a retirement party/excuse to play volleyball after lunch, thank GOD), this might be less verbose and rambling than usual.

...oh, what am I saying? But I'll try to be concise.

A quick preface )

Thursday, June 21, 2007: Preparing for takeoff )

More later.
mandolin: (howl sparkler)
Quick list in lieu of a real con diary:

1) Got home at 7, just got back from obtaining dinner. No one was killed in our flight from Tennessee to Maryland, although I did threaten the lives of several drivers along the way.

2) From I-40 to Route 340, Route 11 apparently intersects I-83 North 27 1/2 times. (The 1/2 is the route that led you to Rt. 11.)

3) I know what happens in Issue 5 of Gargoyles (guess what the radio play was). BUY ISSUE 5 WHEN IT COMES OUT IN AUGUST. I'm not telling you what happens, it's awesome. (And if they make good on their threats, you can also see me attempting to read Owen Burnett on YouTube in August.)

4) The Grand Resort and Convention Center in Pigeon Forge fails. The attendees of the Gathering OWN their asses in terms of mobilizing and saving merchandise from leaking ceilings.

5) Carmine was indeed a big hit and he is now perched on the back of my couch. If I can figure out a safe way to get him to G2008, I will. (Probably will have to mail him, well-packaged and insured.)

6) G2008 will be in Chicago, IL the weekend of June 27-30. I am already pre-registered. Save your pennies, people! (The G08 website is still under construction, give them a few weeks, I don't think Susan is back yet from G2007. We had to skip out on Closing Ceremonies.) Spread the word!

7) The news on Season 2, Volume 2 is thus: TELL PEOPLE TO BUY VOLUME 1. Disney is NOT planning on releasing it all together in a box set, and they are basically holding Volume 2 hostage because they're not happy with Volume 1's sales. Also, Greg W has gone through 5 managers in charge of the project, which isn't helping. Tell your friends, tell your acquaintances, tell them NOT to wait on a boxed set. The only way to get Volume 2 is to SERIOUSLY boost Volume 1 sales. Which isn't easy 'cause Amazon is the most likely place to find Season 2, Volume 1. But that's it.

8) SLG is putting out a 6-issue "Gargoyles: Bad Guys" miniseries sometime later this year. Karine Charlebois* is drawing it and Greg is writing it. Keep your eyes peeled. If you want to post promotional material at your local comic book shop, go to the SLG website and contact them asking for a PDF with which to promote the Gargoyles comic. Issue #5 IS coming out in August! The comic is back on a bi-monthly schedule, and when "Bad Guys" comes out, there should be a new book out every month.

9) I need to play catch-up on the friends list now. Going to do that immediately. :)

*For those not in the fandom, Karine, unlike certain previous artists on the book, knows how to draw the characters!
mandolin: (rivalry is born)
So I've known for a while I was hitting the road for the 2007 Gathering of the Gargoyles on June 21st.

It didn't occur to me that the 21st was coming up so quickly until the middle of last week. :)

I guess I'll see people there tomorrow. Driving out there with [livejournal.com profile] brooklynx who's flying in tonight.

(Also, LJ, would you STOP resetting my Viewing Options to Horizon with its annoying dropdown menus? I'm tired of having to reset it to Dystopia. Phbbt.)
mandolin: (tivoattack)
Dear Yahoo! Mail or Hotmail (it's one of you, I know it)!

STOP DELAYING MESSAGES SO THEY DON'T LAND IN MY INBOX THREE DAYS AFTER THEY'RE SENT.

Seriously, it's not a good sign when SNAIL MAIL would be quicker.

(Hey, Jen, that e-mail you sent me Friday? I got it TEN MINUTES AGO. *facepalm*)
mandolin: (pink flowers)
Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] indigoangelcat!
mandolin: (omg!)
Check this out. Les Moonves actually UN-CANCELLED something.

*checks the skies for airborne porcines*

I don't watch the show, but having been there and done that I'm very happy for Jericho's fans.
mandolin: (omg!)
So the Phoenix Wright game series for the DS has eaten an entire weekend, and I felt the need to gush over it in my LJ. But I haven't had several hours free to sit at the computer and ramble on about the game in all the detail I wanted to. It's like a cracked-out shonen retard anime played out by lawyers. Geez, at the current save point in the first game I've got to cross-examine a parrot (and the parrot's making the judge look like a fool).

Curious? Good. Now check out a better canon pimping post. Warning, it's image-heavy. But it describes the SHEER CRACK of this game better than I can in the next 5 minutes.

Aand I've got to go have that thing called a social life. Hey, it happens sometimes.

*runs out door*
mandolin: (donottaunt)
Okay, now that the apology is finally up on [livejournal.com profile] news, I'm posting a few final thoughts on the "Strikethrough 2007" debacle. I'll put up a briefer, public version of this; friends-locking it due to tl;dr. Didn't mean this to be so long. EDIT: Oh, heck, I'm just resetting this to public.

First, I am not leaving LiveJournal over this. Don't get me wrong, the Six Apart/LJ staff really handled it badly, but the more I think about it the more I believe that leaving will solve NOTHING. Say that a bunch of us move over to GreatestJournal or DeadJournal or some other blogging site. Who's to say that a few months or years down the road our new stomping grounds won't get so crowded that another screwup like this happens again?

Moving over to another blogging site that hasn't had to learn this lesson the hard way might mean that history could repeat itself. It also makes me think of the discussion I was having with a neighbor the other day: if you suspect your neighborhood may be going downhill, cutting and running may not be beneficial in the long run. You'll just be letting the bad elements move on in, and eventually you'll run out of good "neighborhoods" to run away to if you don't plant your feet and try to work to improve things where you are. If all the good neighbors leave, it just makes it easier for the bad ones to move on in.

Second, my beef with this whole situation is the half-assed way LJ handled complaints. )

So anyway, I still think LJ could have handled things better, but I think it was an accident brought about by the fact that there are so many people on LJ now and not any kind of conspiracy. This sort of fiasco is exactly the kind of incident that makes me realize I shouldn't abandon LJ, if that makes any sense. That may change if this sort of thing repeats itself, but for now I'm going to wait and see, go on with my life, and pay better attention to LJ news.

Although I intend to back up my own journal when I get home from work tonight.

*sigh*

*catches up on friends list*

*boggles*

If I could express the mother of all facepalms here, I would.

(For those not in the know, there's a sudden onslaught of LJ account suspensions - a lot of fandom accounts are being inaccurately reported as being in violation of LJ's TOS, and Six Apart is flailing over liability fears. You can find a detailed information post on the subject here. A lot of the deletions seem to be solely based on interests.)

ETA: Rumor has it that the Warriors For Innocence site (which I am NOT LINKING HERE) is laden with spyware. If you go through the informational posts, avoid going to that site.
mandolin: (whee)
Even though I've said it to you many times today, one last time:

Happy birthday to the most awesome Mom EVER!

I love you, Mom. I'm glad you had a great birthday. And yes, feel free to poke me whenever you need help with your present. :)

Sweet!

(All Gargs fans on the friends list, skip this 'cause you know already.)

So... a few years ago, I remember saying that if there was ever a Gathering in Chicago, I would be there with bells on.

Guess where G2008 is gonna be? XD

(Hey, Jen, wanna go to another Gathering next summer?)

Coherent commentary? Not tonight.

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] mtgat! Sorry it's so late! Hope you had a good birthday weekend!

*hugs*

Oh, yeah... )

Note the lack of excuses for disappearing since Friday morning. There IS no good excuse, although it's true this is the first time I've checked LJ at all since then.
mandolin: (pink flowers)
Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] kevenn!

Hope it's as fabulous as you are - no, really. *hugs*

So, I just went and did something totally out of character, justified by the fact that I just finished the semester: I am now the owner of a Nintendo DS. (Not a pink one.) I'm also starting to understand people's fixation with the Phoenix Wright games; it's like the character designers were wired on Pixy Stix at 3 am when they finalized the characters. *snicker*

Of course, when the fall semester starts I plan to lock the DS up. Or give it to my mother for safekeeping. (Assuming I'll ever see it again; the friend who enabled my urge to buy one - not that it took much - warned me that his parents have one now and play with it all the time.)

On an unrelated note, here's the recipe for the dinner I made Mom on Sunday.

Chicken Lettuce Wraps )

Presentation's over. We didn't bomb. Everyone else has finally gone. Dr. Koru's finished his speech.

Which means that it's official.

THE SEMESTER IS OVER!!!!

Would have ended earlier if the last group didn't decide to go through EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE USE SCENARIO in their prototype! 15-minute limit, people! I cut some of my slides to fit us under the limit! Being last does not mean you can take 40 minutes!
mandolin: (howl sparkler)
Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] violetbloom!

Yeah, I know what I said about the sparkle thing, but it was appropriate here. Heh.

EDIT: To quote the crack!RP where I found out about it from, you just gotta be the sparkles. ;)
