Okay, so...
Feb. 20th, 2006 10:37 pmThe anti-Valentine's Day party hosted by
violetbloom was a success. I will endeavor to get the video of the pinata's death spliced together later this week. (Lara got all the quotes, as evidenced by the use the notebook got.)
Also, I wanted to go on the trip to Northern Italy that
jennies mentioned, but the accounting department was winning that argument - especially since my taxes will require the Annoying Reporting Form that we need to get Mom's financial advisor to help figure out (to cover half a year of the investment account that was emptied when I bought the house).
However, I have discovered this weekend that the money should not be an issue now and Dr. Sandona said there were still slots open. Eeee! Two weeks in Italy! (Now all I have to do is figure out how to keep from totally running out of leave, or I may have to bail out of G2006.)
Anyway, got home late, must attempt to crash soon so I get up on time. Need to get in early enough to start building up credit hours...

Spreading the word...
Feb. 16th, 2006 02:22 pmAs useless to the fandom as I am, I'm jumping on the bandwagon to spread the word about the Gargoyles Season 2 DVDs: it's not guaranteed that Vol. 2 will come out the way the sales are going!
*************
From Greg Weisman (Gargoyles creator) himself:
Tough Love
I've been informed that the Season Two Volume One Gargoyles DVD has not sold as many units as the Season One Gargoyles DVD did. That's not particularly surprising, since it has a higher price point. But let's be honest, the lower sales are putting the release of Season Two Volume Two at risk.
To be clear, I'm not asking anyone to spend money they don't have and/or need for things like food, shelter, education, etc. But if you've just been lazy and have been putting off buying the darn thing... well, pal, help us all out by ponying up sooner than later.
And ALL OF YOU -- PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO SPREAD THE WORD!!!!
It is NOT a given that Season Two Volume Two will come out!
*************
Spread the word, people! Disney's not bothering to advertise it! I've already bought two copies, and if you can afford to, pick one up! (One person on the friends list is naturally exempted from this plea as she has a copy already.)
*goes back to productive stuff*

We just got the first homework assignment for class this evening, and I've gotten about 75% of it done tonight. It's due in a week.
How cool is that?
(And, you know, e-mailing the prof for clarification on it now might make me look better seeing as my group was the absolute LAST group to contact him about the presentation schedule... ah, heh, heh... *sweatdrop*)

Okay, public post to point out that I'm still here.
Brief recap of friends-locked rants: Work's insane, I'm insane, class has started, prof seems sensible and coherent, house is behaving.
So January is gone, and the site hasn't been updated. I actually started in on an update a few weeks ago, but it took an hour and a half just for link additions to one page. Yeah.
( Here's part of the reason why. Cut for image file and my latest in-progress art attempt. )
And I need to get to bed. :)

Jan. 10th, 2006 03:28 pmNot dead. But for the purposes of playing catch-up, I am briefly violating my policy of keeping all Real-Life-related posts friends-locked. So here comes the slew of randomness...

First off, I said this to you five or six times during the wedding reception and you heard it another fifty, but congratulations
blue_soulfire! I actually got some good pictures from the chapel and reception if you want yet more to sift through - okay, mostly the ones with Jim and Brian and company dancing to YMCA with props. And some pictures of you looking beautiful. *hugs*

If anyone's wondered why I haven't replied to e-mails this weekend... for the brief time that I had the chance to sit down and check my mail, Yahoo! Mail decided it hated being opened by any browser on a Mac. The problem's been remedied, but excuse my delayed reaction time.

I now have a garbage disposal. And a new trap in the first-floor bathroom sink. Whee! Thanks, Mike!

I saw the latest news on silly Internet related laws and had to laugh. If this law is intended that way, there's no way they're going to be able to enforce it.

Does anyone know of a good way to reliably clean soot off of a concrete floor? While Quality Climate Control was very professional when it came to installing the new heater, their clean-up skills left a LOT to be desired. I've got plastic bags covering the laundry room floor now so I don't track soot back into the tiled part of the basement whenever I go in there. The main passageway has drains, if that helps. I can't just keep trash bags on the floor there permanently, and I can't keep tracking soot out of there if I ever want to get the tile floor clean. Ugh.

Reason #567 the website hasn't been updated: I am currently driving my home computer crazy making slideshow vids for friends and putting them on iDVD. It works, and I have a system, but it pretty much eats up a huge chunk of memory. And I'm using the free time while it sits there and renders and/or burns to clean and pick up. The office will look like a part of a human habitation again!

T-minus 12 hours 20 minutes...
Dec. 31st, 2005 11:45 am...til 2006.
Off to congregate at
jennies' place as most of the SisterHood descends upon Annapolis for New Year's Eve.
Happy New Year, all - see you in '06!

Dec. 29th, 2005 08:19 pm...just a busy one.
What I should have posted Monday night was that after 14 hours straight working in the basement, the guys installed my new heater and it's working fine. So I have heat. Yay!
I've just been spending time catching up on late-but-it's-going-to-get-done-anyway Christmas stuff and trying to clean up - the guys spent two of those hours cleaning up all the soot, but there's still vacuuming to be done. :)

Survived the holidays, am now home and trying to clean and organize as the guys from Quality Climate Control work on replacing my boiler and burner downstairs. Thank goodness for space heaters and next-door neighbors who let me use their bathroom. :)
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, and a happy holiday regardless of what you celebrate. :)
I haven't been ignoring e-mails, I've been with my family all weekend, and am now working on the house. Heat takes priority.
And to a certain hint site visitor: my blog is NOT a place to post desperate screaming hold-my-hand help requests - especially when you do it while I'm gone for four days. If you're that nuts, go to the Geek Forums.

Dec. 22nd, 2005 03:47 pmDream shaping.
Santa was tougher.
Knitting.
Fly me to the moon...
Butterflies and visual aids.
Philosopher.
Did she call you a paranoid delusion again?
You're ruining the moment.
My head is haunted?
Self-esteem. <-- Favorite strip.
Your kids' armor.
I knew moms could fly.
Toning down the language? <-- Other favorite strip.
Valuable.
The ego strikes again.
I am not the only one who does this!
Want more? Read Count Your Sheep.
I have no idea why I took so long to recommend this.

On a completely pointless note...
Dec. 19th, 2005 08:32 pmDear Universal:
Guh?
I know you wanted to rush Serenity onto DVD to get it out before Christmas. Since the Firefly movie is boosting sales of the series, hey, I get that.
But FOUR DAYS before Christmas? Tomorrow?
Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled to see it and will pounce on it gleefully, but after parents asking me what I want and me having no clue and only just now discovering this... well, I'm not going to make any of my friends or family go out shopping THIS WEEK of all weeks.
(All the Firefly fans whacking me for not knowing about this til now: Hello! House! Grad school! No organizational skills whatsoever!)
Final exam is 75% done. And at 8 pages. Wow.
(Edit: Fixed the addressee. In my defense, I've been trying to churn out coherent BS about outsourcing and open-source and ERP and something else for the past half hour. :) )

*headdesk* and apology...
Dec. 14th, 2005 03:07 pmI seem to have gotten so behind on LJ that I've totally missed important news from the friends list that would ordinarily make me shriek/squeal. I've been going back individually through friends' livejournals and seen THREE-MONTH OLD posts that have made me go, "How did I miss that?"
I'd list the LJ people who I especially neglected, but some of the posts in question were locked and personal and frankly, I think this apology can be extended to everyone on the list. I am really sorry. If you get two-month (or older) comments on messages that are old news, please understand why.

To make up for the paper squee, a fannish post before I go dry my hair. I need to stop setting unfinished posts to private and then forgetting about them.
Okay, I finally did what I've been meaning to do since, oh, around 2003. (Of course, since I'm cheap, I waited til I could do this for free at the library.)
I took out all of Season 1 of Alias from the library and watched the whole first season.
Even knowing the Big Honking Surprise of Season One that you'd have to live under a rock not to hear about at this point, I still was in the dark enough to enjoy it:
( Cut for spoilers, kind of, but more so as not to bore Alias fans who were there from the beginning )
So what season do I have to get through to fully understand
yahtzee63's "Irenicon" without being totally spoiled? Elkridge has all of Seasons 1-3 and (I think) most of 4.
You know, now that I can watch House first-run again, I really should provide commentary for that, too. Eh, tomorrow. Wow, it's amazing how much time you have when a really annoying assignment isn't hanging over your head (just one you're apathetic about).
