Hey all -

I'm in the market for a hand-held digital recorder for recording interviews for my class study (I can't write fast enough or remember enough not to tape) and maybe for recording D&D quotes again. Any suggestions? Not looking to spend any more than $50 if that's even possible.

Yeah, Mom, I think I "put away" the old tape recorder last semester and for the life of me I can't find where "away" was exactly.

I am such a moron.

Congratulations, Maya and Arvind!

The reason I'm a moron is because it took me two days to connect the dots and post this. Fail.

Where have I been the last two weeks? WORK IS INSANE. That is all. At least, according to everyone I've asked, this kind of chaos is NOT normal for even most emergency releases.

Also, yes, I'm on Facebook. Because this week's assignment involves joining a social networking site (specifics should be posted later) and work is not blocking Facebook yet.

Also, I read the last Blue Beetle, and it makes me kind of sad to type that. (EPIC SPOILERS) )

Damn, it's 10 already. Oops.

Also, why it's taking three weeks for LiveJournal to fix comment tracking is beyond my comprehension. Then again, that's what happens when you cut your staff short. *sigh*

Official word on what happened is here.

Just spreading the word so rumors don't start.

TNT is marathoning all the episodes next Tuesday, February 24, from 10 am to 11 pm.

Set your DVRs.

Looks like they're showing them in production order, not airing order, interestingly enough.

When you're on hold with a call center, why on Earth do they intermittently fake you out with that recorded voice that keeps telling you to "please hold" with the same exact wording every TWO MINUTES? With no useful information included like website, et al. I kind of get the recordings that tell people they can go to the website or give out hours because it might potentially thin out the queue. But the repeated useless admonishments to please hold?

It's not like you need to be told you have to wait, the elevator music is a pretty damn big clue. I can't figure out the point of this beyond irritating the people calling in further. Anyone know where this came from?

So, flying in the face of their usual tendency to open on time even in dangerous conditions, my office is opening at 12:30 today.

The problem? ...I have to leave work at 2:30 today to get to my doctor's appointment.

I'm trying to save leave, true, but I'm not sure if it's worth going in for 2 hours. Especially when the doctor's is in the other direction.

pfft.

Okay, so I just got through my first class of the semester. The class is "Online Communities." One of the final project options is to conduct a social study of an existing online community.

I immediately thought of [livejournal.com profile] campfuckudie.

And then took a second to really consider what a social study of CFUD would reveal.

...

I'm not gonna do it, but can you all understand why I started cracking the hell up in the middle of class?

I don't think my prof is ready for that.

I say the in progress because the day is not over and I may need to update.

1) Asked a question at the Policy Meeting that Never Ends that... actually yielded a simple answer and solution. Seriously. At a policy meeting. That kind of thing happens once in a blue moon.

2) When the really confusing Policy guy finally showed up at 4, my branch chief stood up and announced "Meeting's over!" before he could say a word. My branch chief is awesome.

3) I GOT OUT OF THAT MEETING ROOM AND NO ONE DIED.

4) ETA - When the other programmer in the room said, "I've got a theory," I automatically blurted, "It could be bunnies!" ...and two other people in the room got the reference.

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] wonderseal! ♥

1) Discovering that the afternoon meeting I absolutely had to stick around for was postponed until tomorrow. So instead of trying to flex out and nap in the health center for an hour to try to get my sleep-deprived self up to snuff for the meeting, I was able to go home sick and sleep for three hours straight in my own bed. (So I guess my self-diagnosis of sleep deprivation was dead-on. Thanks for waking me up, Mom!)

2) Mom gave me the obvious solution to wanting protein for breakfast but not having the time to actually cook an egg: hard-boiled eggs. Which apparently I still know how to do properly. XD

Hey, I slept half the day away, there's not much to cover.

whoo!

Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] marielogan! Hope it's a great one! ♥ ♥ ♥

Yes, I had to go back and check. Shush. (Day 5 had to be friends-locked for personal reasons.)

1) Ran my first meeting as a subteam lead ever. It was not a train wreck and I sounded like I knew what I was doing. Woot!

2) Teriyaki chicken lettuce wraps. Mmm.

3) [livejournal.com profile] jennies and [livejournal.com profile] indigoangelcat spent the night and provided nonstop entertainment. (To anyone on gchat last night, yeah, that's where I disappeared to.)
mandolin: (have no fear)
Before I crash:

Sunday

1) Got the chance to hang out with some friends I haven't seen in a while and borrow a couple of addictive Wii games.

2) The Ravens actually came close to tying the game against the Steelers for a while there. No, seriously. I was kind of expecting a train wreck but it was actually a good game.

Monday

1) I didn't have to go to work today. :)

2) Sitting in my sun room with the blinds open and watching the snow was like sitting inside a snowglobe.

Okay, must go to bed at a normal hour.
mandolin: (heroes - dumbass)
IN MY DEFENSE I DIDN'T GET HOME TIl 11:30 LAST NIGHT.

THE HAPPINESS MEME
Rules: For eight days you have to post something that made you happy that day. Tag eight people to do the same.

1) Getting to hang out with the SisterHood and seeing The Tale of Despereaux. Really, that sums up most of the day. We gathered in Frederick, saw a movie, went out to dinner together, then played board games til it was 10:30 and I was half-dead and it was time to go home. which is why I woke up at 2 pm oops thank god I have off tomorrow

2) Production day for the app release was totally uneventful. Nothing went boom. And I had pancakes afterwards with the team leads.

TAGGING: [livejournal.com profile] wonderseal, [livejournal.com profile] indigoangelcat, [livejournal.com profile] jennies, [livejournal.com profile] vaudevillainy, [livejournal.com profile] anatari, [livejournal.com profile] marielogan, [livejournal.com profile] kevenn, [livejournal.com profile] bktheirregular

Totally unrelated, can anyone point me to a good source of custom mood themes? I like the FB theme but I think it's time for a change. if there's a Pixar moodtheme out there I am ALL OVER THAT ONE.

To reiterate, here's the meme:
THE HAPPINESS MEME

I'll tag people tomorrow if I'm around long enough to post! but here's what I've got:

1) It's Friday.

2) The blocking that drove me nuts at work yesterday morning was temporary and UMBC is no longer treated like a porn site. XD

3) Had a useful meeting this morning in which I found out important stuff about the project I'm working on.

4) Was able to work out for an hour at lunch and wow did it feel good.

5) I have tea. :)
mandolin: (dizzy)
So around the beginning of December, I couldn't wait for the hotel to stop screwing around with the G2009 staff anymore, and set up the week-long San Diego trip with the expectation that G2009 would take place sometime around the end of June.

Whoops.

*sigh* I really don't want this streak of having to miss the LA cons to continue, but... I don't know what I'm gonna do now. Not only is it now two months later, but I think it's now scheduled on the freaking production weekend of the app I'm subteam lead on. Yeah.

I can't turn around and get my folks to reschedule the San Diego trip now. And I'm pretty sure I can't afford to take TWO week-long trips out to California in the same summer, especially in terms of taking the time off. ARGH!
mandolin: (bb - batglare of doom)
Not dead. Work sucks.

Film at 11.

good Lord sponsor people it's 2 days before Christmas go home and stop demanding upgrades

The semester is over.

The semester is over.

Actually, it was over Sunday for me, but I needed a day for that to register.

I'm not even gonna try to recap. I need to readjust to actually posting and perusing the friends list again.
